[p]retty when i'[m] broken at your door

sugar wishes won't change what's real

Private for Laura. Mature because Sita is going to pitch a spaz and swear a lot.

live by the code thatcha got to move on

She'd just wanted a bag of crisps. Hers were gone, and she was craving them intensely. The pain in her stomach hadn't faded at all, but she'd learnt to deal with it. And now, she'd wanted crisps, and she'd wanted them exactly at that moment. No questions asked. So Corey had come with her to the store to find crisps, because the werewolves liked to hang around those parts of Arciero, and she didn't feel like dying.

And then she'd decided to be swift and take the pregnancy test. She'd just been thinking sarcastically that maybe she was pregnant. So she brought the bag of crisps and the blood test to the doorway of the store and waved them at Corey, grinning.

Dare me? She called out, ripping the test open and shaking her hand to get ready to stick her finger.

:: dare you

>>laura<<

This ought to be fun.

>>corey<<

When she’d asked him to come along with her to the convenience store, he’d told her to hang on just a minute. He’d grabbed his gun. That done, the two of them had made their way through the silent, empty city streets towards the edge of town where the store was. He leaned against the door as she went inside in search of more crisps, folding his arms over his chest. She’d find some, he hoped. She’d not been entirely well ever since that night in the fields, and he was worried. Maybe the crisps would make her feel a little bit better.

He was surprised when she poked out of the store, tearing open the package of a pregnancy test. His eyebrows flew up towards his hairline and he uncrossed his arms, letting them fall towards his sides. Then one eyebrow slunk back down to where it belonged, the other still arched. He smiled slightly. “I dare you,” he replied. What could be the harm done? It was unlikely she’d be pregnant. After all, with her constitution, it was highly unlikely.

say it isn't so

sugar wishes won't change what's real

Oh yes.

live by the code thatcha got to move on

She made a big show of it. Pricking her finger, which she had to do three times before she drew blood. She hated being so thin and so anemic and so... it was hard, being like this. It was like a condition, but she was used to being 'sick', and ignored it. She was making a show. Jabbing her finger, and pressing it slowly against the test...

And then she ran off, giggling madly, test in hand. She didn't even glance at the result, she was so sure it'd be negative. She streaked around the store, laughing madly, and hid behind the crisps. That was when she finally looked at the test, which had a line of blood where it had dripped. She was still giggling until she saw the positive sign.

The scream that rose from her throat was nothing short of earshattering.

:: FUCK

>>laura<<

Hehe.

>>corey<<

He watched her make a show of taking the test, chuckling softly as her notoriously thin blood didn’t make its appearance until her third try. He stuffed his hands into his pockets, his gaze fond. He looked around quickly to make sure there wasn’t anyone coming as she ducked into the store, her laughter resounding through its emptiness and echoing out onto the street. He started to laugh, too, as he took his hands out of his pockets and went inside after her. He looked around, trying to find her, but she’d disappeared.

Then there was the scream. He winced, trying to cover his ears. He couldn’t rein in the loud exclamation of “Fuck!” that escaped from between his lips. That was loud. But what had made her scream?

told you so

sugar wishes won't change what's real

Uh oh.

Yes, she's gonna flip, as soon as she sees Corey. No worries.

live by the code thatcha got to move on

Sita was in shock. She stared at the test, unblinking. Her finger was streaming thin blood, but she didn't care. Her eyes glued to the positive sign on the test, and blood made a steady dripping sound on the tile floor. Positive? There must have been a mistake. That was it, a simple mistake. No, because mistakes only happened with the older tests, the piss-stick tests. Blood was much more definite. And her blood said positive.

Her head hurt. And not just from screaming.

She laid down on the floor, just barely out of the small puddle of blood, and began to cry.

:: can't be

>>laura<<

Awr. <3

>>corey<<

His eyes scanned the store, but he didn’t see her. It was like she’d suddenly disappeared. So he decided to trust his senses to take him to her—he would always be able to find her as long as he let his heart do the talking. Eyes closed, he took a few deep breaths. That’s when he heard the dripping. He put out a hand and made his way toward it, opening his eyes again and proceeding with caution. He let his ears guide him; he saw the puddle of blood before he saw her. “Fuck,” he said again, but this time in a whisper. He looked around and saw the pharmacy aisle, pausing to grab a box of band-aids. He opened it and went back in that direction, pulling out one of the adhesive bandages and tearing its wrapper apart, setting the box down on the nearest shelf, among an assortment of sunflower seeds and candy.

He wasn’t expecting that the test said positive, and he certainly wasn’t expecting what would come next as he finally came into her line of sight, band-aid in hand, ready to patch up her wound.

dying here inside

sugar wishes won't change what's real

Here goes the psychoticness. Or part one of it.

Corey can chase her or not, whichever you like.

live by the code thatcha got to move on

Sita looked up from her crying, and suddenly her rage was aflame within her. She wasn't sure what happened, but her words spilled out and her mind did nothing. You! She sat up, hair brushing in the puddle of blood as she did. You, how could you? She threw the test at him, blood spraying slightly from both the test and her hand. She was pissed now, and she believed she had perfect reason.

Everything was so fucked up now.

How could you fucking do this to me, you bastard? Somehow, she was on her feet, and her eyes were burning with hatred that she didn't truly feel. Thought you'd make yourself more important in my life, did you? 'Hey, I feel neglected, I'll knock her the FUCK up and then she'll be bound!' Her voice was mocking, cold. A voice that hadn't belonged to Sita since the massacre. Didn't you know that you were already my everything?

Glaring, tears running down her cheeks, she turned and ran through the store, looking for a way to escape the pain... and the one who'd caused it.

:: you're [always] right

>>laura<<

He’s afraid and hurting, so…no.

>>corey<<

She got up without his help and glared at him. He felt like her words were coming at him through some kind of thick cotton or something—a haze he couldn’t dispel. There was a delay between her mouth moving and his brain telling him what she was saying. He didn’t want to believe what was coming out of her mouth. He didn’t want to believe he’d knocked her up, didn’t want to believe he’d hurt her, didn’t want to believe…

He swallowed hard, unable to fathom the hatred in her eyes. This was Sita, for God’s sake! This was the woman who knew him best in the whole world! How could she say these things, how could she hate him? And the worst part…was that it made all too much sense. Although none of it was true, his love for her blinded him to the past, and what she said became the truth, rather than what he knew was real. He knew he’d made love to her for her sake, to keep her from remembering the misery that would follow, and that the full moon had been nothing, that they’d both slept right through it—something extremely unusual for her. But what she said…maybe she was right. No, she had to be right. She knew him better than he knew himself. Of course what she was saying was true.

So when she turned on her heel and left, he didn’t feel he had any right to pursue her to try and tell her what she’d said was wrong. She was right. He deserved her hatred.

The band-aid fell out of his fingers into the puddle of her blood. She deserved better than him.
