:: here to stay || CLAN MEETING

>>laura<<

Here’s the deal. Your character shows up, and you’re on my good list. Your character doesn’t…and you’re on my bad list. So post, won’t you?

>>corey<<

The opera house would never cease to hold secrets from is supposed ruler, one Corey Conlan. He knew from some of the sounds in the night that there were new members hanging around the place, but he hadn’t met any of them yet. He had kept as far away from Sita as possible in the last few days—he was afraid of facing her after the unfortunate business in the convenience store. He felt like she was miles away, and that she was leaving him to lose himself in all of the possibilities that had just opened up due to his own irresponsibility. As much as he loved her, he thought he would never fully understand her.

He’d once again tacked up a notice to the double door entrance, and once again he was sitting pretty much center stage. He loved the cool of the wood beneath his hands and the solid feel of it supporting him, adored the scent of the musty, moldering, seats in the audience, found solace in the peeling paint on the stage, boxes, and balcony. Each bit of the once beautiful building’s design resonated with him and called him to stay. For Corey, there was no choice. He would remain in Arciero for as long as he lived. He had spent his whole life searching, and now he was here. No way was he leaving.

Now if only the others were so sure…

sugar wishes won't change what's real

I'm here!

live by the code thatcha got to move on

Sita knew she had to go.

Corey had tacked the notice up, and that meant a meeting. She glanced over it once and made her way inside. Her stomach was killing her, and now she knew why. Not just because she was pregnant, either. She was also dreading seeing Corey after the fateful day at the store. The day she'd gone insane, flipped out on him and then began avoiding him for lack of anything to say. Now, what would she say?

I'm sorry.

She was standing near the stage, and her voice was soft but it was there. She knew he'd been avoiding her as much as she'd been avoiding him, if not more so. Her pain was apparent, but after the words she'd said in the store, who would want to be best friends with her now?

Brief flash...
Out of character //
If I have to...
In character //

Cables over one shoulder, and helmet slung under the other arm, Alexios was only passing through the theatre hall when he heard sita make her apology to the man sat in the middle. He wasn't interested though, he simply stopped at the end of the isle and looked towards the stage.
That man... who was he? Alex strained his eyes to see him, but didn't recognise him. Was that the Corey guy he needed to contact about ammunition?
He was too busy to stop and find out. Instead, he just etched the cables up onto his shoulder a little more, before continuing his passage through the theatre. To avoid being rude though, he began to whistle, to let them know he was passing through.
As long as none of them stopped him on his way, he'd be alright. Besides, he wasn't stayig for long. He was set on that fact...

The Cj Factor

out of character // cassandra michelle parsons

...I'm here.

back in character // caliandra jade levin

Caliandra stood in front of the double doors belonging to the Opera House. She had seen a sign posted saying there was to be a clan meeting. Being new to Arciero and not understanding what the hell was going on, she decided to contact good ole' Sita. Sita had explained things to Cj like she would explain things to a 5 year old. Caliandra grinned. Sometimes she needed that.

She ran her fingers along the frame of the door, exploring the wood with her textured fingertips. She smiled. She loved the Opera House. Though she had just gotten here, she felt like this is where she belonged. This is where she would remain. Forever. Wishful thinking, probably. She'd move on and so would the people of Arciero, whoever they were... They'd forget her and move on with their lives. Cj sighed and pushed the doors open.

Caliandra walked down the center aisle, heading for the stage. She saw Sita standing there and a guy sitting on the edge. She raised an eyebrow. And who was this? She hadn't met this person yet...Sita had, obviously. She was talking to him, anyway. Hearing whistling, Cj looked around and spotted Alexios at the end of the aisle. She grinned. Another person she knew.

Cj came up to the stage, tripping over her own feet and hitting her head on the edge of the platform. She blinked a couple times then looked around and smiled softly, adding a slight wave of the hand. Hey, guys. What's up?

:: irrationally jealous

>>laura<<

That’s three…good.

>>corey<<

Sita, unlike at the last meeting, was the first person to show up. Then there came whistling from somewhere…Corey peered through the semi-darkness of the audience and saw someone he didn’t recognize—doubtless one of the new people who he knew were around but had yet to see. Ignoring Sita’s apology, he raised one hand and waved at the man passing through, wondering what his name and story was. Because everyone in Arciero had a story. It just so happened that his and Sita’s were the same one.

He was saved from being impolite to Si by a young woman showing up. She seemed to recognize Sita, and despite himself he felt a bit jealous. It was irrational, considering he had no idea of what had passed between the two of them, but then again, wasn’t that a reason to feel jealous? He pushed the jealousy aside and turned his face towards the strange female, looking her up and down. Not as attractive as Si, he thought, despite his recent resolution not to think about her that way. He didn’t deserve her; things were fucked up between them now, and that was his fault entirely. “I’m Corey,” he said, sitting up straighter. “Have a seat,” he suggested, gesturing at the stage. Whether they were here for five minutes or for two hours, it always paid to be comfortable.

provoking the situation ;;

sugar wishes won't change what's real

Suicide by way of vaccuuming. *Sighs* Too... much...

live by the code thatcha got to move on

Sita sat on the edge of the stage, legs dangling down. She didn't want to curl up like she usually would - Her stomach was once again being so kind as to put her through lovely bouts of pain, and was being random about when as well. The young woman picked up her water bottle and took a drink of it, downing three large gulps before she could make herself stop. She didn't want to put on weight, and though it was inevitable that she would, she was trying to minimise it.

Once she'd temporarily satisfied her insatiable thirst, she patted the stage to invite Cj to sit next to her. Not much, kiddo, she said, smiling a little. If Corey was going to be like that, she may as well be cruel as well. She figured she'd make it appear that she and Cj were more than friends, that Corey had been replaced. Of course, this wasn't the case, but she could pretend for now.

Something moved in the shadows, and from the form, Sita could figure who it was. Alexios? It had to be him.

Flash to light...
Out of character //
-Dies- I smell of airplane fuel >.
In character //

Only one thing crossed his mind as he heard his name,
'Shit'
He'd been called. Now he HAD to stop, or it'd be rude.
Alexios hadn't seen any sign saying that there was a meeting, so his presence in the theatre hall at that time was merely a coincidence. Nevertheless, the chances of Alex turning up to a meeting like that if he HAD seen it was remote. It would have been more likely that he'd have seen the notice, and decided to avoid the theatre at all costs.
He was determined to stay as unattached to any of the people in Arcerio as possible, that way it would be easier for him to leave, and he would have no regrets. Afterall, the majoirty of the people in Arcerio had no idea he was even here, it was just unfortunate that 2 people knew he was here as he had spoekn to them.
He couldn't just keep walking though, could he? That would be rude. He would have to stop. In his mind, he continued to curse over and over again, before he stopped and sighed, looking over at the stage, his eorange eyes visible in the shadow he was passing under,
"Yes?"
He didn't want to be here, but if he was stopped, then so be it, he wouldn't be rude. He'd do whatever he had to do.
And then, another thought crossed his mind.
Corey. Aha! This was an oppertunity to meet the guy, and perhaps get some amunition. Whatever attacked his squad on the way in wuold no doubt still be out there, so he would need ammo in order to be able to inflict enough damage to get past them. He knew that Corey may not have the ammo he needed, but he supposed any ammo would be fine in the end.
Still, best to keep contact to a minimum, he thought. So instead he just kept a low profile in the meeting,
"What can I do for you?"

[Insert something clever here]

out of character // cassandra michelle parsons

Bah...I don't know what's wrong with me, today. It sucks. Sorry.

back in character // caliandra jade levin

Caliandra smiled at Corey. I'm Cj. Nice to meet ya'. Cj figured Corey was in charge. After all, he had posted the note on the Opera House doors saying there was a meeting. So that meant he'd been here..awhile. And, well...so had Sita. She looked at Corey then back at Sita. She opened her mouth to ask a question, but decided it was not the time or the place. She'd ask Sita later. Maybe.
Flashing a grin at Sita, she climbed up onto the stage and sat down next to her. She put her hand on Sita's shoulder and smiled. Sita hadn't been feeling well lately and Cj wanted to let her know that she cared. More than that, though...she wanted to make everything "okay". She was always like that; trying to fix things that she couldn't possibly fix. It drove her crazy.
Spotting Alexios again, she smiled and nodded in his direction. Caliandra was trying not to say too much in the meeting. Talking was never too easy for her, anyway. Not only did she stumble over words, but she was practically tripped over them and fell flat on her face, too. She'd speak when spoken to, now. Nothing more.
She sat quietly next to Sita, looking at the dirty floor of the Opera House.

:: memorize me

>>laura<<

Sorry I took so long…and this is short.

>>corey<<

He looked at the two strangers, studying their features and committing them to memory. He fixed the names provided with their faces, knowing that next time he met them, he would surely recall their names. That was one of Corey’s special talents—his memory. Whether it was memory of a list of facts, of an occurrence, or of a face or a name, Corey could remember it. He was fairly normal in other respects, but he had an excellent memory. The only thing he was better at than remembering would have to be reading Sita. He could read other people to some extent, but he’d known Si for so long that he knew her better than he knew himself.

Alexios and Cj, he told himself. “Nice to meet you, Cj,” he said, and nodded his head to the man, who had begun to approach the stage. There wasn’t really anything to say just yet.

Hey, Laur, we have to talk about promotions and junk. And I figured a way to quicken the pregnancy, too.

live by the code thatcha got to move on

Sita smiled weakly as Corey spoke to Cj. She leaned over to her new friend and whispered to her. That's him. Corey. She glanced at her stomach to make it obvious to Cj what she meant. Then she turned to Alexios and spoke to him instead. Corey, no matter how angry she was at him, needed to get a chance to talk to Cj.

Hey there, Alexios. What's up? You still trying to get out of this hell hole? She tried to be casual and semi-together, and she was succeeding. She could fool anyone she'd ever met. Anyone but Corey.

Silence takes it's form.

All of this faith and all of this pain.. // Jester

Ok, I changed it and now I feel better about it. Sue me, I’m picky.

Elan // ..burning all down 'cause my anger reigns!

Unlike a phoenix that rises magnificently from its ashes, Élan slumped out of his makeshift hammock; a curtain he had ripped down, and fell the few feet onto the hard floor he had so well tried to avoid. He pushed himself up and rubbed his temples while he eyed the floor in that early-morning irritated look.

Which idiot put you there? He grumbled in his head, the dull thud having shaken his senses a little. The small shop he had hijacked was glowing with early morning light, alas; this new day did nothing for the disheartened atmosphere that hung about him. Alone for three sun-rises did nothing for him. True, he had always been a ‘loner’, per se, but now there was no-one around. Not a soul. He felt like a caged animal, only inversed. He had so much space to go and no-one to share it with.

Another day, another page in the survival guide. A deep sigh set him off on his hunt for food, but soon enough the dead streets had him lost. He had no way of knowing what time it was, or what direction he was heading, or where the overpowering smell of decay was coming from.

He knew this place was called Arciero, and that was only because of the corner shops he found. Empty, of course. These words bitterly ran through his mind. He was starving.

Then he saw it. The Opera House that would soon enough liven his spirits. It’s towering grandness was matched only by his own intense desire to raid the cafeteria. It’s musty smell surrounded his nostrils and all he could see was the dark, disappointing aura of age. A masterpiece forgotten.

Maybe there are at least some comfy seats that I can steal. Make my own, ‘Survival Fort’. He let a rather maniacal smile across his lips. Guys only. He felt like a kid about to build a tree-house when he heard muffled voiced coming from a door signed ‘Theatre’. People?! Life?! I must find out. He mused in the way that he did. Talking to yourself was the first sign of insanity, they say. That, for him, was impossible, so he did the next best thing.

His arm outstretched, he ran his fingers along the large oak door and pushed them open, his smile fading instantly when he saw a group of people sitting on the main stage.

‘Thud’ The door behind him.

Shit. His solitary thought.

Fantasy World

stuck in a greyscale world // liv

-----

lithe // colourful people cannot live

Lithe fell in love with the building the moment she saw it. She stood dwarfed by it, as she was by most things. Standing at what she called a meager five feet five inches, it could be worse she supposed. She pushed her way through the doors eyes scanning the darkened area, a dank smell reached her nose and she breathed deep. The entire place reeked of old, and she adored it.

Eager to explore the large building she pushed through yet another set of doors into what obviously used to be used as the main room gray eyes sweeping the large area, she soaked in the padded and torn seats, looking faded looking like the rest of the place, and the balconies where those who could afford it would watch the actors.

Averting her gaze to the stage and, lost in her fantasy she almost missed the small gathering of people on and near it. The teen felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment, sure that she had walked in on something important. Her stomach twisting itself in knots of nervousness and unsure of what to do she hovered near the back wall for a moment before making her way quietly towards the center of the excitement. If she wasn’t the only one there she might as well find out who these people were and what of interest was going on.

Change = no good.

out of character // cassandra michelle parsons

Howdy. o_O

back in character // caliandra jade levin

Cj nodded and smiled at Corey. Looking at Sita, she raised an eyebrow and then looked back at Corey's shoulders practically, avoiding his eyes. Ah, Arciero drama. She'd just gotten here and she was already a part of it....kind of. She knew what was going on for the most part, but some things were still a mystery to her. She shrugged and pushed her short red hair behind her ears.

At the sound of the Opera House doors slamming, Caliandra looked up to see a young man standing in front of them. She raised an eyebrow. She had already decided she wasn't going to say anything until she was spoken to but she decided that a wave would be acceptable. She raised her right arm and gave the man a slight wave. She looked back at Sita with a questioning look. Who was that and why hadn't she heard of him before?

Her questions remained unaswered as another person walked into the old theatre. A woman, this time. Cj looked at Sita and grinned. Another female. Not that Cj had a thing against males, oh no. She glanced over at Corey then looked away. Corey is Sita's. Caliandra shook her head and chuckled. She was such a girl.

Cj fidgeted, trying to get comfortable while sitting on the stage. New people were coming to Arciero and quite frankly, she was worried. She had already become accustomed to Sita, Alexios, and Corey...but now there were new people. How many more people would show up in Arciero?

She thought back to something Sita had told her when she first arrived in Arciero. So how'd you get landed here? Sita's words echoed in her mind. Just get lost?...If you did, I'm sorry, because there's no un-lost from here. Did the new people realize where they were? Were they just as lost as Cj was when she first arrived?

She didn't care, they were new. They were part of a new chapter in her life...everything was changing.

And if there was one thing Caliandra Jade Levin hated more than anything else,

It was change.

This could be.. interesting. Sorry if it's short or sloppy.. I'm tired and kinda hungry.

logan // leave me in the dark

Logan watched the other man disappear behind the large doors to the opera house. This man was quietly followed by a teenage girl, though they didn't seem to know each other. He looked up at its magnificence with awe. It was so large and so old, and a feeling of ancient curiousity washed over the building. Cautiously, Logan approached it. He couldn't help looking from side to side as he did so. Somehow he felt like he didn't belong here and he was intruding on something sacred; but the opera house drew him nearer. A sign was posted on the great door, and Logan ran his fingers over it. Touching the aged wood, he felt like he was just a boy again. The sign stated that there was some sort of meeting going on. Logan had no idea what that meeting might be about, but he figured it couldn't hurt to meet someone so he wouldn't be quite so alone.

His curiosity could not be ignored. The musty smell shrouded the building's mystery, but it couldn't block it out entirely. A bit hesitantly, Logan pushed open the heavy door. Not wanting to be noticed immediately, he made sure it shut quietly. He wasn't sure what would greet him, but he somehow didn't expect the air of the place. His head shot up and around, trying to take in all of the opera house's magnificence in one sweep. He looked over the old seats, the high balcony, the large stage. All of it seemed faded in a way, but the prescence of life in the house once again made it all so real. A smile touched his lips, and the feeling of being a little boy returned. Grey blue eyes lit up, and he felt like he'd like it here, even if the others didn't approve of him.

A few more people were spread across the opera house. There were, of course, the two that had entered just before him. A couple more gathered around the stage, and another stalked around the edges of the opera house. Logan made no attempt to count, but a touch of nervousness reached his heart. Perhaps he had only been expecting two or three or five people. Unfortunately, there seemed to be more than that.

Hell hole? Since when was Arciero a hell hole? Granted, he and Sita had gone through hell to get there, and things had certainly gone to hell since they’d settled themselves down in the opera house, but really—did that make the city a hell hole? Corey thought it was heaven on earth…in a way. What had happened between himself and Sita, at least, had been heaven, though what she’d said afterwards had most certainly been hell. No…Arciero couldn’t be heaven. But it certainly couldn’t be written off as hell, either.

He raised his head and looked around the opera house, expecting to find it as empty as it had been just a moment ago. However, he was wrong; there were three people he didn’t recognize standing around the edges of the audience, and he waved at them. “Hey!” he called. “Come closer, we don’t bite,” he said, smiling to prove his point, though he doubted the ones all the way back near the doors could tell that he was smiling from there. But it didn’t matter. They’d have to become acquainted sooner or later.

Re: welcome to the madhouse ;;

we live in a beautiful world...

Good work, you guys. Keep it up, Afterglow is certainly glowing now.

...but even beauty has it's flaws.

Sita most certainly thought this place was hell. With the exception of that one night of bliss, everything had been hell thus far. First getting here, which was a pain in the ass and took forever, then getting in a fight with werewolves and nearly dying of bloodloss. She still had a bandage on, though a bit thinner, just incase she began to bleed again. If she were to have a child, it would take until the child was three years of age for this wound to heal.

Then the bliss, and oh, how that was heaven on earth. But some God up somewhere in his penthouse didn't want her to be happy too long, because being pregnant made her sicker than a dead dog. Even now, she wanted to throw up, and a sickening reality was falling over her, the curse of all times to any mother or mother to be. But she held it together for the people who were gathering, and showed her teeth reluctantly in a cute smile.

Cor, alluding to biting them probably isn't encouraging, she told him, and her voice was surprisingly warm. Here. She turned to all the people in the room and smiled again. Hey guys, c'mere and join us. We're just having a little get-together, we'd love to have you. Not exactly true, but they needed more allies, so what the hell?

Whatever.

Cj rolled her eyes. Har har...we don't bite! That was a terrible way to greet people in Arciero. Hell, to greet people anywhere. She wanted to tell him so, but she kept her mouth shut. Wouldn't want to make Corey angry. Oh, wait. She could have. He doesn't bite.

Caliandra smirked. Just a little get-together? More like...'hey! welcome to Arciero. this is the opera house. we have a library, a little store, some good stuff. enjoy your stay here! oh, by the way. you're stuck here. have fun!" Yeah, that really sounded like fun to Caliandra.

But where else was there to go?

He has a voice! .. Wait, no, he doesn't.

All of this faith and all of this pain.. // Jester

Yes, he’s a mute.

Elan // ..burning all down 'cause my anger reigns!

So, what? I spend three days alone, and all of a sudden I find new people -here- of all places, and, wait! Two other lost souls appear out of no-where! What are the chances?! His smile had definitely faded and had little hope of returning for at least a minute while he seethed silently about his apparent loneliness in this Hell-hole, remedied by Gods apparent sense of humour. Fate my ass. You’re toying with me! His eyes flicked upwards for a moment. Up at the magnificent ceiling towards his only source of conversation.

“Hey! Come closer, we don’t bite.”

Obeying, his face lost all sense of anger and remained neutral, uncaring. This of course was a façade designed to weed out his own integrity and confidence in meeting new people. He felt like grinning wildly. The first sign of life, and it was friendly. His rhythmic steps told of his journey down ‘Aisle L, rows 8, 9, 10.. 14..’. His head was lowered a little, and the little golden squares with simple black numbers inside of them were strangely calming. This wasn’t some twilight zone.

As he got closer he saw one of the females staring a little to his left, behind him. Apparently he wasn’t the only one accepting this rather, odd, greeting. You better not bite, I am skilled in the arts of running away. He thought to himself and couldn’t resist another tiny smile. The wooden stage was raised about 6 feet off the floor, and without another thought he pushed back his sleeves and jumped, pulling himself up onto it, immediately standing up and surveying these new people.

Introduce yourself. With what?! Find something. Oh, yeah, thanks for the advice! He argued with himself, darting his eyes. He looked around at his jacket and stared at all the pockets, wondering what secrets they kept from him. His eyes averted back to the others, and he started to feel a little nervous, twitching somewhat. He ran his hand through his dark hair nervously, keeping his mouth closed. He scanned the floor and saw a small patch of dust. Dammit.

He knew he had the attention of the others, and slowly he made eye-contact with each of them, pointing at his chest with his index finger. He then proceeded to get down on one knee and write his name in the dust, hoping it was clear enough for them to see.

E, L, A, N.

He smiled and pointed at himself again, assuming a cross-legged sitting position.

"We don't bite!"

The comment echoed in Logan's head a moment. I certainly hope you don't... he thought. Why would they have reason to bite? A bit nervously, he followed the other man down the isle. He sighed as he realized he seemed to be doing nothing but following. He'd found this place by watching other people. Pretending to shake his longish hair out of his face, Logan shook his head at himself. Hell, he could never make it alone around here. Where was "here," anyway? Trying to relax, Logan let the vast expanse of old seats that once held an enthusiastic audience draw him in again.

As he approached, he saw that the one that called him and a woman seemed to be avoiding each other. Logan noted that he didn't actually see it; he felt it. It dripped off their postures and their avoidance to meet each other's eyes. The awkwardness of the moment seemed to hold both their thoughts hostage, despite the fact that the other man masked it well. The one a head of him climbed onto the stage, but Logan simply leaned on the arm of a chair at the end of the isle. He watched the man spell the letters E-L-A-N in the stage dust, then point to himself. Logan looked from the written name to the man. Elan... weird name. he thought. No wierder than Logan. His internal voice chimed in before he could stop it. Inwardly, Logan sighed. Once again, he looked at the man point to himself. He had yet to speak; was he a mute? In the place, it might well be possible.

Logan decided it was his turn to speak. "Who are you? Where am I- we.. whatever?" His thoughts stumbled out from his lips before he could sort them into clear sentences. "Logan- my name, I mean.." He squeezed his eyes shut. The younger man turned his head to the floor before he let himself open them again. Shyly and nervously, he drew a pattern in the dust with the toe of his shoe. "I'm just going to shut up now..." he muttered to himself, making a weak attemtpt to hide behind his hair.

Obviously, all these people knew more than he did; where they were, for instance. Maybe even what was going on. God, he was hungry. Logan couldn't remember the last time he ate- in fact, he couldn't remember much before the moment he woke up that morning. He had yet to shed his teenage awkwardness, and now it had showed its face in front of his only hope at human contact. He couldn't force himself to count them- it'd only make him feel worse. He looked sideways to the other girl that had just entered, hoping for someone as confused as he.

Re: Yup, I'd be late to my own funeral...

Yeah, this is a mite late, terribly sorry, work’s been insane, I dearly hope it’s all right that I post this now, as late as it is. There’s been a lot going on. I won’t bore with explanations, suffice to say. I was busy, and I apologize for the lateness and out of orderness, I’ll delete the post if need be.

lithe // colourful people cannot live

We don’t bite…”

Lithe smiled ruefully at the words as she cleared the last few steps of the aisle and stood in front of the stage uncertainly, feeling as if she were being judged by standing alone in front of the stage before so many people. A quick head count revealed that she was one of seven people in the room. Four males, and three females, the women were outnumbered. Another smile graced her lips at this childish thought, and after all she was still a child having lived a mere seventeen years on this earth.

Her eyes turned vacant a moment as she reflected upon her thoughts. She was a child yes, but seventeen years had prepared her for a lot, but it hadn’t prepared her for the past few days where she’d wandered lost and rather hungry. She was being stupid and hadn’t meant to wander so far from anywhere, ironically she’s found herself on this little jaunt, unprepared to stand before strangers in an opera house where she’d expected to find nothing but solitude and dust. She giggled out of place in the situation, thinking that there was plenty of dust, as one of the men on the stage had just written his name in it.

Lithe became suddenly tired with the events of the past few days finally weighing down on her, plopping gently to the ground the teen sat Indian style, her eyes flitting over the others that shared the large room with her and realizing that she never read what the man had written in the dust, by the way he had pointed at himself the assumption was made that it was his name. Reclining back on her hands the girl decided not to worry about it as it would probably be revealed later. And besides she had better things to worry about.

:: bitter[sweet]

You guys are doing great, keep it up!

He waited patiently as the newcomers all wended their separate ways towards the stage, one of them climbing up onto the ancient boards and writing what was apparently his name in the dust. Elan…interesting. Corey looked from Elan to the other male, who introduced himself as Logan. Logan, Elan, Cj, Alexios, he thought to himself, repeating the sequence of names over and over again, writing them into his memory. Only when he was sure he wouldn’t forget their names and faces did he address the long string of questions Logan had spun off.

“My name is Corey. I’m sort of the man in charge here, I guess, by default of having been here longest…with Sita.” He spared a glance in her direction, and some of the longing that he felt for her care crept into his gaze, but he controlled himself. “And you’re in Arciero. Basically stranded. Welcome to Afterglow.” He smiled vaguely, a tinge of bitterness in it. He’d spent much of his life wondering about the city, and now that he found it he most certainly wasn’t leaving any time soon—after all, what was there to go back to but shame, fear, and derision?
