SWI is an RPG within the spectrum of the Harry Potter universe, but instead taking place in the United States, specifically Salem, Massachusetts. The year is 1992, marking the 300th anniversary of the Salem Witch Trials.
It's the week before school is to start, and most students should be present and accounted for. Classes may not start until the first, but students are still admitted on the campus in order to settle in their houses.
The weather is warm and humid, and the sun competes with the clouds for dominance. There's no rain despite the clouds, and there's no wind to ease the dry, sunny days.
