This is a special time to reflect on the contributions Christians have made to transform the world into a more just and caring society. It is a special opportunity to acknowledge the times when we have not acted in accord with the teachings of Jesus. Christian Unity is beyond our human power to achieve. God calls us, however, to prepare the way: by our prayers, by our willingness to repent, by our openness to God's Grace. The path to Christian Unity is not clear to us now, but the prayer of Jesus will surely one day be heard and answered: That they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be one in us, that the world may know that you have sent me. (Jn 17:21) May we be drawn ever more completely into unity: to the unity of all Christians, to union with Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist, and finally to unity in the communion of the three Divine Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to whom be glory and honor forever and ever.
