There is a book still available by Steffen Hellner titled Killifish: A Complete Pet Owner's Manual. Steffen unfortunately passed away, but I understand his widow still markets the book. It is listed on Amazon as out of print-limited availability. I'll try to find a source and post back here.
The AKA has beginners guide on their web site that you may find helpful, depending on your experience: go to ww.AKA.org then follow the links General Content/Beginners Manual

I've got the Aqualog book Killifishes of the world, Old World Killies I. It is short on words but big on pictures. Fish porn as my girlfriend calls it. "Look at the fins on that one!".
I wouldn't be put off a killifish book by its age. Not a great deal has changed in the past few decades (small tanks, sponge filters, yarn mops and peat) and most of the current species have been in aquarium circles for longer than that. . A few of the names have changed but are generally pretty easy to sort out using fishbase.org.

Besides Hellner's book (which you can easily pick up in the bigger LFS in Melbourne) and the Aqualog "porn" books (Dean has obviously spent too much time with killifish ) the other books that I have in my personal library are:
Scheel (1990): Atlas of killifishes of the old world. Again largely a picture book, some what dated and expensive but a valuable reference work
M Ostrow: Breeding killifishes
E Warner: Success with killifish
A Terceira: Killifish, their care and breeding.
These are dated books but as Dean said nothing much has changed with killi keeping over the years (except that perhaps some killi hobbyists have become a little less secretive).
You might also like to contact Rod on (02) 9689 1766 (he is a grand master of the Sydney Killi Group) and find out what books they have in their library (it is a great library). They tend to lend the books to members.
Other valuable sources of information are the journals and bulletin boards of the AKA and BKA

My apologies to Steffen Hellner, it think it was Ed Warner who had died. Ed published a book called Success with Killifish which I understand is still available from his wfe Ruth for $US10 + p&p. Ruth's contact details follow:
