Re: anyone have pics of their killifish setups
Hi Sarah,
Here is a shot of some of my tanks
The top row is around 35-40 litres and the bottom row 15-20 litres of water in each tank.
Tanks in this photo: as you can see initially I got these 4 tanks made for my stand - which is a hammer lock shelving unit with 4 shelves the manufacturer claims each shelf can carry evenly distributed 350kg of weight!.
I then got glass cut and siliconed them in creating either 2x 35litre tanks or 3x 15 litre tanks. Since each compartment is sealed ie. a close system in itself, I regard each compartment as a tank.
The backs and the bottom of the tanks is painted black from the outside. I do not use gravel.
Each tank has an air driven sponge filter. Some java fern attached to slate or terracotta pieces and some java moss.
I actually have 31 tanks made this way on this type of stands.

Re: anyone have pics of their killifish setups
I generally keep my killifish in pairs, mainly in tanks on the bottom row. Sometimes I have a trio (1M2F) or a harem (1M3+F) in those tanks. When breeding I also add one floating (strands of yard reach from surface to the bottom) and one sinking mop.
For annuals, I still either keep a pair or a trio in the bottom row tanks, with a round takeaway container with 2cm of peat in it. I cut a hole in the center of the lid about the size of fifty cent. This keeps some of the peat in as they are breeding and the fish seem to be able to find the exit abit easier. It helps to use opaque containers rather than clear ones to help the fish find the exit.
In the top row I keep larger species like Fp.sjoestedti (Dean?)or groups of Epiplatys species which seem to do well. Also use them to raise a large batch of fry.
Bottom row size tanks are also used to raise batches of fry.
With killies I never had males killing a female. Though sometimes an odd male might damage the females fins. Then I add another female in to distract him and or add additional mops in the tank where the female can hide in.
If you are going to keep a number of males and females together in a tank make sure there is at least 3+ males in the tank.

Re: anyone have pics of their killifish setups
Hi Sarah,
I find, the one that is suppose to be fine with 350kg per shelf is very sturdy. So I have not modified it in anyway. I painted it white though!
I also two put together like a bench. They both have a 4 footer and other bits and pieces of tanks on the top shelf and have tanks similar to the ones in the photo in the bottom shelves.
Re: anyone have pics of their killifish setups
thanks Serkan i think i will invest in a 350kg one and paint it i didnt like the steel look , and i would set it up as a bench too as i dont like having more then two shelves of tanks
cheers
Sarah
ps i find tanks without gravel much easier to clean and as my killifish are in with my peppermints that make a lot of mess i have to clean it every few days
