White Oleander
This book definately doesn't come under the general heading/theme here, but I had to include it. It's a story of a mother and daughter who are seperated when the mother kills her boyfriend. The daughter is then sent through the foster system. Her life and what she faces is so moving. The write Janet Kitch (sp?) writes with a style and flow of prose that captures you and takes you along for the ride. It is mesmerizing.

If you have seen the movie already, you probably enjoyed it. The book is so much more. They left so much out and glossed over alot of important issues. The endings are also different.

I highly recommend this book. I think you'll really like it.
