Something On My mind
There is going to be four characters in this story which are:
- Taryll
- Taj
- TJ
- Jenna (Taryll's girlfriend).

‘Oooh baby do you remember…’
‘No No No!’
A frustrated TJ screeched.
‘Taryll what the hell is up with you lately? You have not been on form at all! You’re not in tune and your timing is…’
‘I just got something on my mind ok!’
Taryll’s tone emphasised his clear annoyance as his eyes glared at TJ.
Quickly realising his emotions were detectable Taryll dramatically calmed down and softly said…
‘Look, I’m going to go to the bathroom and when I get back I promise that I’ll get it right.’
Taryll shuffled off out of the room making it obvious that he had a full bladder.
‘That’s the third time he’s been this morning!’
TJ grumbled to himself.

Later on that evening TJ met with Taj at his house as arranged to talk about the group.
‘Where’s Taryll?’
Taj looked from side to side as if he was searching.
‘You’re guess is as good as mine!’
TJ insistently pushed passed Taj in order to enter the house.
‘Wow, wait a minute. What’s happened?’
It was clear that all was not well.
‘Nothing…and that’s the problem!’
‘Taryll has been completely distant from the project this last couple of weeks and I have no idea why, he’s always late, he’s touchy, he makes excuses to get out of work.’
‘All right TJ calm down. Now Taryll is a very rational person so there must be a genuine reason for all of this unusual behaviour.’
‘Even his girlfriend Jenna has noticed it. Apparently he sneaks off, doesn’t tell her where he is going.’
‘Hmm…’
‘I don’t know what it is…but whatever it is it seems to be taking up most of his time!’
‘You don’t think…’
‘What?’
‘Oh nothing it’s a silly idea!’
‘What? Come on Taj you might as well say it.’
‘Well, you don’t think that he is seeing another girl behind Jenna’s back do you?’
Taj’s face looked almost disbelieving as he was trying to justify Taryll’s absence.
‘No…he wouldn’t.’
‘Yeah you’re right it was a stupid suggestion.’
‘But it would be almost the only reason for what’s been going on.’
‘Yeah well I think it’s for the best if we keep this little theory to ourselves until we have better knowledge!’
‘I swear I’ll kill Taryll if he is jeopardising our careers over a girl!’

Bang…bang…bang…bang
Taryll threw the tennis ball at the wall playing a catch game with himself almost as if to de-stress as he thought aloud.
‘What am I going to do?’
‘Should I just leave Jenna without reason and just allow her to fill in the gaps? Would she be better off without me? Would she still want me after…’
There were pauses in the sounds of the tennis ball hitting the wall as Taryll stopped to reason with himself.
‘Would she still want you after what?’
Taj leaned inquisitively against the inside of the door.
Startled Taryll jumped up out of his lazy position…
‘How long have you been standing there?’
‘Long enough!’
‘Why…what did you hear?’
‘Chill out, I only just got here. Is there something that I shouldn’t of heard then?’
‘Oh it’s nothing…just mumbling nonsense to myself! Trying to come up with some new lyrics!’
‘Taryll you can talk to me you know.’
‘I know that, and thanks for letting me know. When I have problems I know where to come.’
‘I mean it. Come on you know what I’m talking about…you being mysterious lately.’
‘What’s that supposed to mean?’
‘Look it’s not fair on Jenna if you are…’
Taryll jerked up out of his chair trying to escape the questioning but was slammed back down from a deep, sharp pain around his lower back.
‘Are you ok?’
‘I’m fine!’
Taryll snapped.
‘Now leave me alone!’

A couple of weeks later an exhausted Jenna arrived unannounced on Taj’s doorstep. She anxiously rang the door bell.
Taj stormed towards the door disgusted how people could be so rude.
‘I’m coming!’
He shouted.
‘Jenna!’
Taj stared with a surprised look on his face.
‘Taryll isn’t here if that’s what you came for?’
Jenna broke down in tears…
‘Oh Taj what has happened?’
Taj nervously cuddled Jenna as he walked her inside the house to sit her down.
‘Whatever is the matter Jenna?’
‘I think Taryll is having an affair!’
‘Wow, that’s some accusation! How can you be sure?’
Trying to muster up as much energy as she could, Jenna just about managed to speak through her tears.
‘Well it all started you know, with little things. Taryll would seem a bit distant. Then I started to notice that he would make excuses to go to the bathroom all of the time. In the end it became absurd, I know Taryll hasn’t got a weak bladder.’
‘But what has that got to do with him supposedly having an affair?’
‘Well it doesn’t but it’s still out of character for him. They say people act differently if they have something to hide…’
Jenna blows her nose into her soggy tissue as she continues…
‘Then he always has these mysterious meetings that he urgently has to go to. He says they are to do with the groups business.’
‘Well I don’t know anything about that.’
‘Exactly! He never lets me go with him. I just can’t talk to him anymore, things we used to talk about like our future…he just seems so cold towards it. As if there is no future for us!’
‘Yeah but these things might all be explainable. They just seem blown out of proportion to you because you assume that he is having an affair as it’s the only reason you can think of…or you fear it.’
‘No that’s not all! Oh Taj I’m not sure you want to hear this but…he doesn’t even want to make love to me anymore. I can’t make it anymore obvious to him that I want him…and he couldn’t distance himself further from me.’
‘Maybe it’s the stress of it all, you know it hasn’t been easy for us within the group this past couple of months.’
Jenna bursts out with frustration…
‘He has a number stored in his phone. The only number I don’t recognise under the name of Kim! Who is she? I don’t know her. Why didn’t Taryll tell me about her?’
‘Oh Jenna I’m so sorry. I’ll destroy him if it’s true.’

Later on that night Taryll comes home to a dark house.
‘Jenna?’
He shouts.
‘I’m home?…where are you?’
Taryll walked upstairs and could hear Jenna weeping from the bedroom. He slowly pushed open the door to see her silhouette keeled over the bed in the dark. He turned on the light to see her face red raw from all of the tears that had run down her face.
‘Baby what’s wrong?’
Jenna lunged up off of the bed in a rage as she came flying at Taryll with her fists.
‘Why are you pretending to not know. Don’t treat me like a fool Taryll I know!’
‘Know what?’
Taryll looked puzzled as he tried to quickly work out in his mind what Jenna was talking about. Thoughts ran through his mind…
‘How could she possibly know? I kept this hidden well from her. Is she talking about the same thing? How did she find out?’
Jenna punched Taryll in the chest weak from her exhaustion.
Taryll grabbed her fists to defend himself and to give her the chance to calm down.
‘Hey…babe what’s wrong tell me.’
‘Don’t patronise me! I know about your sordid affair!’
‘My what?’
‘Yes that’s right! I found out…I found out about your little bit on the side!’
‘That’s crazy!’
‘Oh don’t remember now? Well let me remind you about KIM!’
Jenna’s voice raised to a deafening tone.
Taryll dropped Jenna’s fists and fell onto the bed almost lifeless.
‘Oh so you do remember! How could you? How dare you?’
Taryll lay there shocked…tears started to roll down his face.
‘Don’t try the water works on me…it’s not going to work we’re finished!’
‘I’m not having an affair!’
Taryll protested.
‘Oh yeah then how do you explain everything? Huh?’
‘Kim…is a guy!’
‘Whatever, do you think I was born yesterday?’
‘I’m, telling the truth!’
‘Ok then…tell me who he is then. Why don’t I know about him huh?’
Taryll looked at Jenna lost for words.
‘Thanks Taryll, that’s all I needed to know’
Jenna ran out of the room hysterical.
Taryll ran to the door eager to catch her…
‘I have prostate cancer.’

After they had the chance to settle down Taryll began to explain to Jenna that he had been acting weird because he had found out that he had cancer of the prostate. He explained that Kim is a guy and that he was his doctor. He didn’t tell Jenna or anyone else for that matter because he didn’t want to upset anyone and thought that he could handle it on his own. Thought that life could go on as usual but discovered that it had it’s limitations. Mainly, he felt embarrassed in a weird sense. Luckily, the disease was caught in it’s early stages and was operable.
