Science in Enosh-called-Gomorrah
Science in Enosh-called-Gomorrah (Esrath'himidt nadahg Ehnosh'loham Gomorieh):
-----------------------------
The late Enoshian civilization was highly advanced in many areas, due entirely to vampiric infestation. There are no human scientists; knowledge is illegal. The only fully literate and educated folk are of a small caste of scientists selected in toddlerhood. The "lucky" toddlers are usually selected from the eugenically "superior"* stock of humans of the upper caste of house slaves and revnant ghoul families.
------
Becomming a Cainite Scientist (Korin'vatsuadur iPliei suet Bensia'at sim Caini Esrathi):
A human (S'ethii) or revnant ghoul (saiet ur, pl. saiutim) youth is plucked from Enosh and taken to the Academy of the Sciences (Ma'ikur esrathim). There, the precocious toddler is rigorously tested and challenged. If they fail, they are sent back to the fields or homes from which they come. The few who pass are put into the school system (ithyahari vant si ha'at). Within the school system, the youth will grow to adulthood maturing physically and academically. If the young are deemed fit, they are put into the school system for the next several years of their lives. For each generation (20 cycles), there are around one hundred who begin and only two to four who are allowed to matriculate into the Academy of the Sciences. During their formative years spent in study, the child scholars (kaiturlai, pl. kaiti aiturlaim) are given both carrot and stick lures to elicit the elders' desired response. The students' egos are stroked through intense indoctrination about their "innate abilities" and superiority. The couple or handful that are deemed worthy continue their rigorous training for the next twenty-eight cycles (seven Enochian years). The possibility of becomming an Immortal hovers above them constantly. If the human youth continues to impress in adulthood, they are given a test before being gifted with the sacred blood of the Immortals to become non-revenant ghouls (Ta'ausaietur, pl. Ta'ausaietim). The students born into ghouldom from the revenant families don't have to take this test. The ghoul scholor now continues their studies and aids their vampiric master in research. They are sometimes groomed by an advisor who takes an interest in them. For the very few, it is possible to achieve the Baccalari (Temshait Hai). The Temshait Hai is usually followed by the embrace (Tawat Bensia'aulaidt) by the line of Caine most interested in the exceptional mortal. The decision is based upon a number of factors - obviously the candidate must be brilliant, but that is only the beginning. A political game is certainly a large part of the process. Once the student "graduates" into immortality, they are subject to two sets of responsibilities and pressures - that of the Sacred Ministry of Science (Ti Hinnit Saet Esrathu Basyaul). and their Clan, known then as line of Caine.
For the Mekhetim, this is less of an issue, as their line has given itself totally to the Ministry. The baccalari starts out as a questar (Rait): little more than a messanger or an aid. Regardless of his other duties, the young immortal is still expected to continue their research and begin to specialize. Most questar will become specialists (tethlari) within a [modern] century or so. For most within the Ministry, this is as far as they are likely to go. Elders serve as Department Heads (Faisal) to direct research. The Faisalim direct most of the research of the tethlari through the four Departments.
----------------------
Department of Time (Elois of the Mekhetim)
Department of Eugenics and Chemistry (Kraio of the Mekhetim)
Department of BioEnergy (Kiasa of the Ka'atim)
Department of Planer Physics (Etin Moihanai of the Mekhetim)
-----------------------
Research findings are brought before the Council of Knowledge (Tritzahk ni ameth Reithrathi Meit'sul) and either the presenter's ideas are accepted with accolades or are denounced as heresy. The council is convened once a cycle by the Faisulim to hear the advances and consider their application. The Council is comprised of the Faisulim, one "observer" from the Royal Family, as well as three other Cainite scientists chosen by election from within the full body. The election takes place at the start of proceedings. Councillors, whose term extends only within the confines of the ten-night event, determine the course of science for the society.
------
Most members of the Ministry are Mekhetim, though Ka'atim, Lykid and even a rogue Malkavi bolster their ranks. Also, the Royal Family has a member that sits Ka'atim and Lykid tend to gravitate toward the Department of BioEnergy.
