Quote:Samuel Dalembert came to terms with the team on a new six-year contract late last night. Marc Cornstein, the agent for Dalembert, confirmed that it is a six-year deal, but would not give contract figures. The deal is believed to be for more than $50 million.
My initial guess is that to say more than 50 million, it implies that it's less than 60, right? Which is around what, 8.5 million starting?
Capologists?

Re: S.I.com is reporting...
Unless the hawks interest wasn't genuine, my thought is that it has to be more than what the hawks could have offered over five years.
Then again, if the Hawks interest wasn't genuine, and there were no other interested parties, it's still a bad deal.

S.I.com is reporting...
Hey...it looks like it's not $75 million! (Although there are a lot of numbers "more than 50 million.")
From what I've read most here would have been happy with $36 million. I suppose this is not a bad compromise.
IF he stays healthy and plays as well or better than he did in the Detroit series, it could even be a bargain. If not, anything would really be too much.
We needed a center and, I hate to say this but, no one better was available.
I have no problems with Bk on any of his signings so far...if the approximated amounts are correct.

Well, hopefully "more than 50 million" means he got somewhere b/t 50-55 million and not significantly more than 50 mil. I've said all along that I'd be OK with a deal starting at less than 8mil per.
I guess we won't really know the exact #s until sometime later tonight or in the morning.

Re: S.I.com is reporting...
I'm guessing around $50-55 myself, with less than 55 being probable. Anything over 55 would have come out sounding like 'close to $60 million'. Under the circumstances, I'm not too terribly upset about that number. $70-75 million made me gag. Fifty million makes me dry heave a little, but it's a happy medium between what I think he was worth, and what it seemed they were trying to get.
Also, that cap number is easier to get rid of if he stinks up the joint or just doesn't get any better than he is. Teams will still take the contract in 2-3 years just because he's still tall.
What I wonder is if there is a player or team option for that sixth year.
To be honest, I don't really think Billy bid against himself. I think he looked at what the Hawks could/would offer (maybe even found out exactly - the Hawks don't want to tie up their money, they still have moves to make), and made his pitch. In any event, it's $20 million less than the original numbers we heard. That's a good way to look at it in my case.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

50-55 would be great. Truly wonderful.
One the one hand, what jem says makes sense. If it's for less than the Hawks would offer, why would he not visit, even if just to gauge interest? It seems like Billy would have to floor him with an offer to convince them not to even look at Atlanta.
However, the way it was reported makes it sound like under 60.
Re: .
Maybe the Hawks just let Sam know that he aint getting more than say what the Sixers offered him? Who knows...either way until the actual numbers come out, it's all speculation.
The point is the issue is over. We have a starting center, now we need an upgrade at the SF position.

Re: .
Well we have a center who will start, that's true
BTW, in your request for a SF, might you not be interested in getting someone who can back up Sam and Webber, aside from Marc Jackson?
Re: .
Of course I am. With the MLE that is. I was speaking about the SF mostly through a trade (see the thread about what's next )
{EDIT}
Per ESPN:
Quote:
Cornstein refused to disclose the amount of the contract, but it's believed to be worth between $60 million to $70 million, based on previous negotiations.
That's through Marc Stein...so take it for what is worth. At those numbers however, I'd personally would have waited for Atlanta or have done a S&T. 60-70 is way too much for Sam.

Re: .
There goes that gag feeling again. He's not worth that much. Now, I'm on board with the idea of letting him get an offer from the Hawks first.
But, there also could be a possibility that outside forces are making BK do the deal now. Maybe the heat on Hunter or some other player they want is getting hotter and time is running out on it? I don't know. Something had to make BK jumpe the gun. I'm just not going to believe (unless it's proven, of course) that he made this deal based solely on the fact that Sam was going to Atlanta tomorrow.
Something has to come out soon about these numbers. All of my joy-joy feelings are beginning to evaporate.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Why would one affect the other? Using the MLE doesn't affect our abliity to match an offer when we have over 3 bird years (unless it's changed, of course)

Re: .
Hey, I'm just throwing stuff out there, I never said it had to make perfect sense.
But, if the deal on the player has to do more with something other than the MLE/LLE, how much they spend on Sam would have some bearing. Plus, there's the idea of who they might want to waive (if anybody) to lower their cap numbers that might also come into play.
While they have never shown that they are against spending money, I'm sure they don't want to be the Knicks, either. At some point, someone has to look at the bottom line. We don't know what BK has in the works, so it's all just grand speculation. But something had to make him rush the deal for Dalembert.
Any ideas?
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

That this is a sign and trade with atlanta, but they just are keeping the other part quiet?
Billy got confused and thought he was agreeing to chicken instead of fish as the main course at his wedding?
Billy is dumb?
