Running Away

Timeline: Season Five, Richard and Emily renew their vows.
Pairing: L/L, maybe, there has to be some suspense
Summary: She knew he loved her, but she didn’t know if he was ready to admit it to himself or to her.
“Luke wait!” Lorelai called out to him.
“Why?” He shot back.
“Cause I need to talk to you, that’s why!” she yelled again.
“Lore!” Chris yelled as he stumbled out the doors.
“So not the time Chris!” she replied.
“I need to talk to you!" he yelled as she continued at her pursuit of Luke.
“Not now!”
“There may not be another time!” Chris responded desperately.
“Then you better talk quick while I run. Well, not run, but the closest thing to running I can do in these heels.” She rambled. “Why did you come here Chris?”
“To tell you that I love you” He yelled back.
“Oh my god, this is so not happening!” She screamed in frustration. “Luke!” She tried again.
“Forget it Lorelai, I don’t have time for this!” Luke replied.
“Then make time because this is important” She pleaded.
“What!” she yelled.
“Who?” He yelled back.
“Chris” she said, softer.
“About what?” he calmed down.
“What he said, about us just seeing each other for now. He was completely wrong. This isn’t just one of those ‘for mow’ relationships.” She tried to explain to him. “I knew that going into this. I knew this was right. I knew I couldn’t screw this up. You mean too much to me. Chris is naďve. He thinks I will always be there, waiting for him to be that guy. That guy I always run to. The on I always want to be with. He thinks he can be that guy, but he can’t be that guy. He can’t be that guy because you’re that guy. You’re the one that I want. Not for now. Forever.”
She watched for a minute while he processed.
“Look Luke, I guess all I’m trying to say is that I love you.” She tried again.
He looked up at her and stared for a moment. She knew he loved her but she didn’t know if he was ready to admit it to himself or to her. Then she saw him smile.
“I love you too.” He said, “But we can’t keep doing this”
“Doing what?”
“Having it go great, only to have it fall apart.”
“Well, how do you suggest we do to fix that?” she asked.
“I have an idea.” He smirked, and then slid a ring on her left hand.
He’d been carrying that ring around for weeks. He knows it probably wasn’t the most romantic time to ask her, buy it happened, he couldn’t just take it back.
“Luke.” she whispered.
“Yeah?” he answered.
“This isn’t right,” she said, sliding the ring back off her finger and placing it in his hand. “I want to marry you, I do, but it shouldn’t happen like this”
“Come with me.”
“Where to?” she asked.
“Just come.”
The trip to Stars Hollow was quiet, but comfortable, calming but unnerving.
Where was he taking her? She wondered. The inn? Why? She thought when the truck stopped.
“Luke, where are we going?”
“Here.” He said as he dragged her up onto the porch, to the very place where they had shared their very first kiss.
“Lorelai, eight months ago, we stood right here. This is where it all began. Lorelai, I love you, and I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” she said, wiping the tears from her eyes, as she recalled the moment where it had all started. She pulled Luke of his knee and he put the ring back on her finger. He was about to kiss her when she stopped him. She smiled and said “What are you doing?”
His reply, like it was so long ago, was the same.” Well you just stand still?”
And it was perfect, exactly like it was. Only this time Kirk couldn’t interrupt them.
