Raising fry together...
Hi all,

I am interested to know if you attempted to raise fry of two different species of killifish together? And if you did which combinations worked and which did not work?

Due to space restrictions and maximize the carrying capacity of my set-up quite often I raise fry of two species together as I like to have at least 6 sometimes even a dozen tanks set-up and free to reshuffle current fish and if I ever impulse buy (with killifish if you see them and not buy them on the spot it might be your only chance for the next 5 years!) I have tanks ready to house the new fish.

I never try to raise different localities of the same species together
I never try to raise different species of the same species group together
I only raise two species together if I am 100% confident in identifying the females apart

Combinations that worked for me in the past
striatum and gardneri - gardneri grows faster, monitor growth if too fast remove fry as they get larger to another tank
striatum and scheeli - as above, monitor scheeli's growth
striatum and bitaeniatum - as above this time monitor striatums growth
aphyosemion and epiplatys species - make sure you remove as epiplatys get larger
epiplatys and aplocheilus species - as with raising these species on their own, make sure fry growing larger is constantly removed to another tank if you want to raise a more than a few

[currently I am raising
australe Gold with australe Chocolate - as they are the same species and the Gold mutation is so obvious it is not possible to mix the two

Note: In the above list you can substitute; Akure, N'sukka and albino where it says gardneri. Also you can substitute; marmaratum, spoorenbergi, filamentosum, walkeri everytime where it says scheeli.

I also routinely raise Corydoras fry together with killifish.

Killifish I never tried to raise with other fry
all annuals that I ever had - probably because when you wet the peat you get enough numbers to dedicate a tank for them!
annulatus - I found the buggers hard enough to raise on their own and their size makes them quite tasty snacks

Any comments and input is appreciated,

Cheers,

Serkan
