Raining Kittens
It was raining kittens. Jess looked down at the grave. He only came to her grave the days it rained. When it rained, he couldn’t tell the different between his tears and the rain. She had died two years after they got married. He could remember his wedding day like it was yesterday. Rory had never looked so perfect. She had on a white wedding gown and a long white veil. There were small white roses in her hair. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. And his voice almost cracked when he read his wedding vows. She had smiled and kissed him on the cheek and told him she loved him. He could still remember her vows. She would always be there for him. She would always love him.
Their marriage was one of the best things that had ever happened to him. It probably was the best thing. She had changed him into a better person. They had fought about books and music. He read Hemingway to her, and she pretended to listen. They depended on each other. He started to open up, and when he thought his life was perfect, it happened. The car crash. The drunk driver that had driven into her car. She had died at twenty-seven years old. He hadn’t been able to bear to read the paper the next day. He would look for her column, but it wouldn’t be there. Sometimes he woke up in the middle off the night expecting to see her lying there next to him. But she wouldn’t be there. It was like loosing her all over again. He hated it.
* He woke up and looked over at her. She was sleeping silently, sometimes making small snoring noises. He loved to watch her sleep. She looked so peaceful. He turned on the light and found a book. He tried to make as much noise as possible. He wanted to wake her up and talk to her. But she didn’t awaken. She just turned around. He read a paragraph and went back to sleep while listening to Rory breathe.

The rain was still falling down, and he put down a white rose. He stood there for hours every time it rained. He could remember happy days. Him and Rory in the park. Reading to each other or talking.
* “I got the job,” she said and smiled. Jess looked up from the book. He smiled and kissed her.
“That’s great,” he said honestly. She smiled and kissed him. She sat closer to him on the bench and rested her head on his shoulder.
“Will you read to me?” she asked in a hushed voice. He nodded his head and started to read from Oliver Twist.
“I love this book,” she smiled. He kissed her on the top of her head and continued.

His cell phone rang; he had no intentions answering it. He turned it off, and the grave yard was quiet once again. There was no one else other than him there. Probably because of the rain, or the fact that it was the middle of the night. He didn’t care. It was the best time to stand there. He could speak to her, and no one except her would hear it. He could tell her about Lorelai and Luke’s life. Tell her about Jimmy, Lizzy, and maybe even T.J. The people who missed her.
* “So how is married life?” Liz asked. Jess was looking over at Rory.
“It’s great,” Jess smiled. He was still looking at Rory. She was talking to Lane and her band mates.
“Well that’s good. You’re treating her right?” Liz asked. Jess nodded his head in reply. Liz smiled at him. Rory walked over to them and kissed Jess on the cheek.
“Thanks for letting us come,” she said to Liz.
“My pleasure. It’s not everyday I get to see my son and his wife,” she said. *
Sometimes he looked for her in crowded rooms. He forgot that she was dead, and when he remembered, he wanted to die. It killed him to not have her in his life. Knowing that he would never hear her laugh again. He would never hear her ramble or talk again. She was gone. She was lying six feet under the ground. Under the cold tombstone that reminded him of his wife and every moment he had spent with her.
* “Jess,” she yelled. He turned around with a pleased look on his face. She was sitting in a radio car. He had just bumped into her.
“Rory,” he replied with a grin. She rolled her eyes and bumped into him.
“Two can play it that way,” she grinned. The cars stopped and Rory ran over to the roller coaster. Jess ran after her, and when he reached her, he kissed her.
“Have you read it yet?” he asked referring to the Hemingway book. She looked up at him guiltily. She shook her head in reply. “You promised,” he said.
“And I will read a book by him,” she promised.

Jess could remember many days like that. Them at the Tivoli, the bookstore, and the coffee shop. Their discussions about kids. He sighed, and looked down at the gravestone once more. It was simple, with her name on it. “We will always love our little bookworm,” it said. Seeing her in the casket was a wake up call. He hadn’t realized it before. Rory was gone. The best thing that had ever happened to him was gone. And he couldn’t bring her back. Praying to Braham or God wasn’t going to bring her back. She would always be gone. All he had was memories of her. The first girl he had fallen in love with. The woman he had married and the one person he always respected.
I didn't really know which smiley to use so I used a bunch. Lol. I've already told you how good I think this fic is, and how the first time I read it, I almost started to cry in the school library. Let me tell you, it's not a good idea, people look at you strangely. Lol. Well, good story. Right more soon. Bye. Courtney.
