Old Character Bios Pre-1991
The Camarilla
Who is to say who is in charge here - but it is probably the Justicars. Plots abound, certainly. The fate of the area surrounding D.C. hangs in the balance - but for some kindred, this is the height of unlife! "Riparian entertainment" treat guests and citizens with midnight boat rides, string quartets, and flutes of blood. Beneath this veneer of gentility and courtly splendor lies vicious politics, blood feuds - and at least one methuselah...
Clan Brujah
This clan has been in upheaval for some time, much rests upon Friday's Gauntlet (some witty members of the clan have renamed this tradition "Fisting Party". Should anyone find out who started this phrase, I'm sure some elder or other would pay handsomely to have them removed. ) The factions all hunker down for the battles ahead.
Here are the vampires who vie for power, or suffer as pawns in the great jihad:
B1.) Hirut, the sleeper of Roosevelt Island, has become manifest and is gathering strength. She was last seen in the guise of a beautiful woman. With Hank and Bozwell both "at large" who knows what she has planned. Certainly the death of Damien is on the TOP of her list. She is a Methuselah of unknown power, Jordan has obviously had some time with her or knows of her, as she killed his sire/lover almost 200 years before. Only OTCAL and Damien knew of her rising and what it would mean. Now that its happened, most sit and wait... gulp...
B2.) JUSTICAR Ragnar Magusson, The Bloodwind of Life's Surrender, stays somewhat aloof to all except his archons, the Prince and Primogen of the respective cities and the occasional small fry like Jacob Matteo who makes it onto the "radar screen": which isn't necessarily a good thing. For Jacob, that is. He has left the characters to their own devices at this point. He is the undisputed interim Prince of D.C. He is "stabilizing" D.C. right now. He is the fist of the Inner Council themselves as the Army of the Camarilla.
B3.) Hank, the diablerist, has apparently escaped. well, sh*t. This august gentleman has distinguished himself by making his way to the Camarilla's Red List - not a list that many are on for long. His power is great now... he was of the Ninth Generation of the Curse of Caine when he was in L.A. the Prince of Cleveland was known to have been of the Sixth Generation...
B4.) Nikoli, the Red, is assuming the position of Primogen by virtue of power and politicking. He is a member of the OTCAL conspiracy. Nikoli has taken up residence in Elysium (for the sum of $2,000,000 for his undercity townhouse) for the conclave, as all wealthy or distinguished guests did. He is busy with Elder politics and solidifying his position.
B5.) Karl Raeger, the fallen General, is languishing in prison, or staked, awaiting trial at the conclave.
B6.) Jeremiah Banks, shamed prisoner, is languishing in a prison somewhere or perhaps staked in Elysium, but seems to be "under wraps" now, but given that Hank is no longer in custody, who knows. He appears to have been a minor pawn in Hirut's masterplan.
B6.) Sergei, the Big Russian Dude, is hanging his head after disastrous events alluded to by Nikoli. Beyond serving as Nikoli's muscle, no one knows his motivations.
B7.) Peter Forsythe, the Professor, is hiding in OTCAL... studying some old pots just acquired from Africa. Or, that's the last anyone heard of him. He deplores violence. Peter is a Childe of Jeremiah.
B8.) Jason Li, Master of the Tong is facing down Pierce over the Baily's Crossroads Development Area. He is holding on to the old neighborhood - his fief - with the aid of his Tong, who knows what that's all about? He has asked for aid, but none has come. Now he's vying with Nikoli for the Brujah Primogenerate. Jason is a Childe of Jeremiah.
B9.) James Nash, The Lord of Annandale, is shoring up power after recent events left some openings. He seems content serving as a second to Nikoli — if Jacob makes it to the Gauntlet, that is … Of course, James' lover and thrall, Raleigh, is ever at his side. How does he resist bloodbonds? Especially one reinforced so often? James is the eldest Childe of Jeremiah.
B10.) Andrei, Nikoli's Lieutenant, is busy politicking and making Nikoli's presence felt in the Russian community in D.C.
B10.) Jacob Matteo, A Soldier in the Army of God, is currently ill-disposed, languishing in a Sabbat prison somewhere deep within the earth. He had accomplished much within the city for Nikoli, and was even bestowed Domain (he was given a blood bank in Arlington) - though, Jacob has not yet even visited his blood bank, or think of its uses - to him and to others. He is a Deputy of the Empire and Nikoli's Lieutenant. He is a member of the OTCAL Conspiracy.
B11.) Raleigh, James' bitch, stays ever at his lover's side, even when mistreated. Kinda' sad when you think about it. He had a nice talk with Damien in the arboretum and knows that Jacob has a crush on him.
B12.) Priest, Hero of the Grand Elysium War, holds together the remnants of the Rangers. He wishes to meet Nikoli before he supports him in his bid for Primogen.
B13.) Camron, Royal Page, stands in his frilly outfit, reading names on cards to announce them at court. This job was most surely a punishment of some sort levelled by the Prince.
B14.) Gryph, unknown. Perhaps he will be at the Gauntlet - it is his duty, after all.
B15.) Boswell, Servitor of Hirut, is in hiding - a blood hunt is called upon his head by the Justicar himself. Those who find him will be given a boon by the Army of the Camarilla, Ragnar Magusson.
B16.) Rebecca, Ranger, stays in D.C. with the other Rangers, responding to Masquerade violations, Sabbat incursions, et cetera.
B17.) Lars, the Protector, stands in the way of anyone who would mess with his prince. He is the bodyguard for Prince Roland of Richmond.
There may well be others, given all of the visitors in town for the
Conclave.
Brujah Ghouls: Many were killed in the fighting in D.C., though the NOVA ghouls seem to be around. They serve as bouncers, extra muscle, day laborers, and gang members mostly.
Base of Power: Some gangs, a few building projects (at least the labor end), the Annandale Police, underground sports, numbers, the Punk scene, George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College system.
Center of Influence: Linconia and Annandale
Clan Malkavian
The shattered lens reveals much - but what does it all portend? The clan is busy gathering information. Joan and Immanuel have emerged from hiding. The clan is as unified as ever - but most outsiders wouldn't see that at all.
M1.) JUSTICAR Jessie, the watcher, is somewhere. everywhere. She is "gathering information" as they say. Both by her own formidable Obfuscate, and via proxies, like Damien and her other Archons. She is the Eyes of the Inner Council themselves as the Spymistress of the Camarilla.
M2.) Joan, Baroness of Gallaudet, Lady Protector of Trinidad and Ivy City, Mourner of Mount Olive, has returned to court life and is a member of the OTCAL conspiracy. She is aware of Damien's role to play. Reestablishing her Domain now that major hostilities have ceased, she stays there mostly. She is around Elysium for the big events, it would seem.
M3.) Immanuel, the inward-looking, is here and there. He moves about a lot. As Damien's sire, he has been very absent, yet trusting. He seems pleased the way things are going.
M4-6.) Cederic, Fredric and Theodore, the Advisors, spend much time in a hive-mind state that they sometimes have problems remembering their identities. They are often seen at Joan's side. Theodore seems to be the senior member of this trio.
M7.) Damien Luther Adams, the Twenty Fourth Prophet, is embroiled in the thick of things at Elysium. His visions are coming every day now, interrupted by a haunting incurred from the time Jacob took the amulet - they honed in on Damien's mind.
M8.) Comet, the Patient, is up to whatever he does. But Hirut has her eye on him... and he is afraid.
There may be more... Jessie is
certainly not working alone...
Malkavian Ghouls: Mostly made up of doctors and teachers. They aid their masters in maintaining dominance over hospitals and asylums, as well as Gallaudet University.
Base of Power: Lorton, Gallaudet School for the Blind, the D.C. Institution for the Criminally Insane, D.C. General Hospital, Fairfax Hospital, the Rothstein Therapy Center
Center of Influence: Trinidad and Ivy City
House and Clan Tremere
There is a bubbling cauldron ready to spill over, and it is this powerful Clan. The Clan is certainly the most powerful — but that isn't everything. The Tremere have a problem with two powerful Elders facing each other down. The Council of Seven in Vienna might have to intervene by the end of this, who knows.
TR1.) Prince Elaine Montcomb, Empress of Northern Virginia, sits atop her golden throne, feared, loved, hated, and admired. She is putting on quite a show of being in control - and, after all, NOVA didn't fall, D.C. did. NOVA is simply magnanimously helping out their friends in the Camarilla. She stands much to gain by this magnanimity. After all, those who cross her are simply staked and left in the oubliette to ponder their error (or luck in being thin-blooded). Her rival and clan leader, Lord Alistair Cairns, looks to reign her in at every opportunity. She is the Regent of the Lighthouse Chantry.
TR2.) Alistair Cairns, Tremere Lord of the Virginias, has a long-standing feud with Prince Elaine, his peer and supposed underling. The characters (and others) think that he is a traitor.
TR3.) Vittorio Ghiribaldi, Seneschal of the Empire, spins his web, ever tightening about his selected prey... er... he is the loyal
second-in-command to the Empress. He looks after the day-to-day operations of the empire, overseeing many things - including the Sheriff. There is some disturbing news that he has the domain of Falls Church as his own - though he is reported to not be using it. He is the creator of the wall (though exactly how he did it is a secret that is jealously guarded from even the other Tremere), he is reported to be a formidable Thaumaturge.
TR4.) Primogen Simone Laurentis, Regent of the Chantry of the Postulants, is looking nervous about her position.
TR5.) Alexi Petrunich, Weaver of Ritual, continues to ply her craft. She works to expand the knowledge/power of the clan by developing new rituals to be spread about. Most guard information and Thaumaturgy with fervor, but she doles out at least the primary stuff to those who can wield the power.
TR6.) Shamus, the ruddy, is a visiting primogen from Richmond.
TR7.) Dr. Olive Palmer, unknown. She spends a lot of time with Lord Cairns, but stays out of the spotlight - both within the clan and outside.
TR8.) Cleo St. Sebastian, the acid tongued beauty, is large and in charge on the scene. She seems to have made quite an impression. She slept with the Prince of Norfolk, and made an enemy of the House of Polloch.
TR9.) Jaime, apprentice, mops away in the drudgery of new-embracees.
TR10.) Marci, apprentice, has been publicly humiliated by Alexi.
TR11.) Bethany, apprentice, mops away.
The Tremere are on a project of expansion of numbers - though perhaps ill-advised as the clan is having internal strife.
Tremere Ghouls: serve as assistants in laboratory work, as well as
maintaining the clan's interests in the daytime. They aspire to Embrace like few others and will stab each other in the back to get it. Melinda, a resourceful ghoul is busy ingratiating herself with Lord Cairns, in hope of advancement.
Base of Power: Alexandria government (mayors office, parks and recreations, fire department, police department, urban development, Old Town Alexandria Preservation Society), the occult scene (bookstores, enlightenment centers – like the one from which Cleo came), the Masons (scary), Georgetown University, George Washington University
Center of Influence: Old Town Alexandria, Del Ray, Landmark
Clan Toreador
This clan had a rapid fall from power recently. Still reeling from that, clansmembers work to re-establish a base. Melisand is moving up in the ranks as Keeper of Elysium - as long as things continue to go smoothly, that is... The former Guild of D.C. is still a powerful organization, for Philippe and his sycophantic underlings continue to live, despite the best efforts of somebody.
TO1.) Phillipe, Le Conductor, is living it up in Elysium. No one loves a Conclave like the Toreador. It is the one time of the year that everyone can set aside their fear of one another to dance (and plot each others’ destruction, of course). He once was the primogen of the ruling clan of D.C., and is just now starting to re-establish himself.
TO2.) Basil, the Pianist, just had a triumphant performance with Damien. He has made a business proposition to Damien for use of his printing press.
TO3.) Melisand Granger, the Belle of the Ball, is acting as social director of the pre-conclave festivities and stands much to gain in prestige – perhaps enough to give her the right of Progeny for her new love-toy. She is the Keeper of Elysium and thus knows (almost) every last nook and cranny of the Undercity.
TO4.) Tomas, the Preening Peacock, is sauntering about the halls of Elysium, secure in his position as Phillipe’s right-hand man. He is above the fore of the NOVA harpies, or so he tells himself.
TO5.) Jerome,Archon, serves as Ragnar Magusson’s protocol Archon at Elysium.
TO6.) Marina,Poetess of Note, was saved by the characters from the Kennedy Center when it was under siege. She can be found in D.C. and NOVA Elysiums… though D.C. Elysium has been boring of late and seems to have fallen from favor.
TO7.) Mme. Monteclaire, devastating beauty, is a new arrival to town. Her beauty has men (well – some men) swarm to her and women want to claw her eyes out (well – some women).
There are others – not the least of which the Roanoke kindred who are late to Elysium for some reason…
Toreador Ghouls: there are three types: those who are the beautiful lovers of the kindred, those that are artists of some sort that the kindred “patronize”, or gallery directors, music producers, et cetera who are useful to the clan in maintaining its power base.
Base of Power: arts and entertainment, the music industry, the Smithsonian, the Kennedy Center
Center of Influence: the Undercity, the Mall, Adams Morgan, Georgetown
Clan Gangrel
This clan mostly stays on the outskirts of the city or acts as a police force for the Camarilla. There appears to be a division within the ranks – those that spend more time in the city (the “domesticated animals”), and those who run free in the wilderness (the “savages”). Sampson seems to have risen to the top of the food chain recently, though how long that lasts in such a clan is unknowable.
GA1.) Sampson, Sheriff of the Empire, is now sitting top dog and has recently changed loyalties from Cairns to Nikoli (due to Jacob’s actions at a clan Moot). He is always loyal to his Prince, however, and will not knowingly act against her. He is busy overseeing most of the security concerns in the conclave.
GA2.) Reggie, gangly fighter, is holding together his brood up north. Those former Rangers scramble to not succumb to despair.
GA3.) Daria, Mistress of the Changing Form, serves as Chief Deputy under Sampson. Her skill at repair and all around bad-ass dykeness is unmatched in the city. Despite her rough exterior, she doesn’t take stupid risks and is far more likely to stick to the plan than most of her other comrades. If all goes according to the character’s plan, she stands to become the new Sheriff when Sampson becomes his clan’s primogen.
GA4.) Max, Animal Talker, serves as a Deputy under Sampson. He is occasionally given to rash action. He is busy helping Sampson with the security of the Empire in this time of turmoil and excess.
GA5.) Clement, the untouchable, serves as the newly-created Scourge of the Empire. It is his job to look for thin-bloods and eliminate them, or at the very least, stake them and bring them to the Oubliette (the Elysium stakery). He is reviled by most, as his job is particularly gruesome, though no one has risen to challenge the Prince on this ruling – it would appear that the Primogen have given their tacit approval of this measure. Who is to say what the fate of the thin-bloods of D.C. will be now that there is the possibility of unification.
GA6 and 7.) Chris and Phil, , patrol for masquerade violators and other vampiric law-breakers to bring them to justice.
GA8-11.) Alec, Sal, Toby and Roughshod, the Rangers follow Reggie and Priest as they cobble together what was once a proud organization. They are all thinking of taking off while the getting’s good.
There are several more that live in the outskirts of the city. Gangrel come and go with abandon, so who is to say who is a “citizen” and who is not. Sampson tends to look the other way when one sets up shop in the wilderness for a time. Though – the wilderness is shrinking by the day…
Gangrel Ghouls: Sampson and his Deputies have a number of Ghouls that work for them in the security apparatus. Other Gangrel ghouls are usually close friends or retainers of some sort who serve as travel companions who watch over them by day – though typically, Gangrel don’t often have ghouls.
Base of Power: Parks and Recreation, Police Departments, security
professionals
Center of Influence: Outlying areas of the city and the airports.
Clan Nosfer[/u]
The Sewer Rats have a subterranean world beneath even the Undercity. Few who travel there uninvited live to tell about it (Jacob was on the outskirts with the former Prince of D.C.) The true master of the Deep Undercity is known to few outside of the clan in whispers. The Nosferatu Clan are the masters of secrets and traders of information. Even the Primogen are not above trading with their lessers. The clan is insular and often hidden from view. Only a small fraction are ever seen by other kindred in the city as the “public face” of their world.
NO1.) Caius, Lord of the Undercity, is of unknowable age and power. None outside of the clan have seen him in centuries. He certainly has a hand in directing his clan above – on both sides of the river. Though why they sometimes work at cross-purposes is still a mystery…
NO2.) Elsbeth, the hag chronicler, the ancient elder, younger than Caius, stands at the ready for Gehenna. All that is transpiring is doing so as was prophesied long ago in the Chronicles of Abisimmiliard and the book of Nod. She has called Jacob the “nikrete” of the prophesy – though Jacob has never bothered to figure out any more about that. She talks of the arising of the “Niktuku” and how she fears it, though it comes soon. She has given indirect aid to the characters from time to time, including calling Jacob with information about the Prince’s whereabouts. In doing so, she acted against the will of Caius, so who is to say if she still lives.
NO3.) Cylus Pine, the tailored leper, serves as the Nosferatu Primogen of NOVA. He is currently in league with the OTCAL Conspiracy. He is a purveyor of information and has traded with Damien on numerous occasions. He was a slave in the time just before the Civil War. He was embraced amidst Gabriel’s Rebellion (a slave uprising). He rose to curse his former master, Alfred Pine, to undeath, and brought with him his wife into the curse. She, so horrified, left him for her former rapist, Alfred. The two ran off together to form their own brood. Cylus maintains a conservative exterior. He wears pin-striped suits and bowler derbies. His teeth are too large for his mouth and cause his gums to constantly bleed over his grey-black skin.
NO4.) Theo, true believer, served as the Nosferatu Primogen of D.C. during the time of the Ruling Council as well as in the current War Council. His fate in the future redistricting is uncertain. He has it out for Jacob.
NO5 and 6.) Mary and Alfred Pine, the Anarch Patrons, have been “cast out” by their clan for some reason. Because of some service given to the City at some point, hey have the small Fairfax City sewer system to themselves, and thus they have set up a small fief. They now help organize the Freethinkers Society and spread information to the lower ranks – thus acting as ombudsmen of the Empire (as no such thing exists). They rely on information from Damien, though it is suspected that they know more than they let on.
NO7.) Rolf, Servitor of Elsbet, was seen amongst the crowd in the Deep Undercity by Jacob. He led Jacob (blindfolded) to the surface.
It is estimated that there are possibly forty to fifty more that live in the Deep Undercity, subsisting on rats and other vermin. Little is known of their world by outsiders, save that it is a place best left to them. They are assumed to be the largest clan in either city, even though they have relatively little power. They have never held any distinction between the North and South and pass with impunity in tunnels beneath the Potomac.
Nosferatu Ghouls: work in the sanitation department, and as janitors (who have full access to so much information) of large corporations.
Base of Power: Sanitation department, zoning board
Center of Influence: the Deep Undercity
Clan Ventrue
The Blue Bloods are having quite a squabble. Things are too much in the air right now to say where the wind is blowing. Certainly, plots abound, and the board of Vencor has become quite rancorous.
VE1.) Jordan Bingham, Duke of Rosslyn, has been building many projects of late. He has expressed a slight infatuation with Damien, but who knows where that is going. He is very old, at least 700, and has seen it all. He is the current Chairman of the Board of Vencor, one of the largest conglomerates in the nation – certainly in the region. He stands atop USA Today and is chiefly responsible for covering up masquerade violations. He was the money behind the throne – now he has pulled out. No one knows what that could mean, but certainly many would see him dead.
VE2 and 3.) Sandra and Roman Polloch, the House of Polloch[/b], works to destroy Jordan and assume the Chairmanship and Primogenerature. None of the characters know what Roman is up to, except to be the trophy husband of the implacable Sandra. She is a particularly venomous Harpy, and Damien has made a real enemy of her. Sandra is the Baroness of Reston-Herndon. The capitol of the House of Polloch is in some exclusive mansion in the hills and dales of Reston somewhere.
VE4.) Pierce de la Croix, Project Man, rebuffed Jordan, though didn’t want to see him with anyone else. Now, perceiving that Damien has Jordan’s affections (and patronage), he is out to get him. He is kinda’ slimy and his Baily’s Crossroads project runs directly against Jason Li’s territorial integrity. He can be quite charming at times, but who knows his full intentions.
Ventrue Ghouls: entrenched bureaucrats, newsmen, the occasional young corporate raider, not politicians – but their advisors.
Base of Power: Real estate, banking, stocks and bonds, Newspapers, Vencor
Center of Influence: Rosslyn, Arlington, Reston-Herndon, Langley, Dulles development area.
Others
The seven clans traditionally of the Camarilla are not the only vampires in the area. And vampires are not the only things that prowl the night.
SPOILER ALERT: Only Damien knows about Ba’ashou, though he has told Jacob.
OT1.) Ba’ashou, Monitor of the Inconnu, communicates with Damien in his dreams and comforts him when he is in his seizures after he has changed prophesy. She does not intervene directly, but looks to Damien to fulfill his role in the coming Gehenna. No one knows Ba’ashou’s age or clan. All that is known is that she has attained Golconda, as have all the Inconnu.
OT2.) Nebasha, Temptress of Anacostia Nebasha, of the independent Clan: the Followers of Set, and her brood rule the night in Anacostia. Neither the Camarilla nor the Sabbat has eliminated her, probably because she stays above the fore. She maintains the drug trade and poisons SE with her filth
(or so the pure would say).
