New CD's
I've recently purchased the New TNT and the latest Helloween CDs... Bothhave their moments of greatness, but also some points at which you scratch something and say WTF?!?!?!?!
Both have some devastating guitar (which is mainly why I bought them). Since I get CDs pretty cheap through the CD store I work at part time I'm more likely to gamble on things. These were probably worth the money.
Anyone else got a review of these? Jeff?
How's the new Children of Bodom? I haven't got that one yet.
i recently heard part of the new Allen/Lande CD....it's pretty good. i think everything on that CD was played by that Magnus Karlson guy....as you can imagine, Jorn kicks ass on it....it's worth a spin.
Re: New CD's
I think the new Helloween album is very good, but not up to par with the Keepers albums of the 80s and I think it was a bad idea from a business point of view to make this a continuation of those classics. Their new guitarist Sascha is devastating though, very Satriani-esque. I think the best song is " Pleasure Drone ". I think Andi Deris is a very good vocalist with a unique voice and getsway too much flak for not being as good as Kiske. Markus, their bassist just blows my mind. One of the best in the genre. Altogether probably like an 7 or 8 outta 10.
As for the new Children Of Bodom album I love it. It's got some newer metalcore and industrial influences, mixed with that old COB sound. It's really great, and in my opinion their strongest and most creative effort to date. My only complaint is that Alexi's solos are getting way to repitive and it would be nice to hear something thoughtful for once. But overall, it's a great album.
Right now I am really stoked on
Primal Fear - Seven Seals
Yngwie Malmsteen - Unleash The Fury ( You missed a great show Shane )
BLAZE - As Live As It Gets
Re: New CD's
Oh also EDGUY's SUPERHEROES EP!!! EDGUY are one of the best heavy metal bands to come outta the last 10 years in my opinion and HELLFIRE CLUB, MANDRAKE, and SUPERHEROES are all classic albums. I cannot stress enough that everyone needs some Edguy.
Re: New CD's
The only thing about UNLEASH THE FURY that bothers me is Doug White on vocals...he seems kinda lame to me. The lyrics are cheesy as hell too. At the live show he came out wearing a batman shirt...
Re: New CD's
Yeah, Yngwie's lyrics have been super-cheese since the mid 90's to me. I remember being on tour with Jorn when he was learning the Yngwie songs to do his tour... We'd sit on the bus and laugh at the lyrics.
Speaking of vocalists, Jorn was a better fit than anyone for Yngwie's band, but I can't blame him for leaving. Hell, Todd would be perfect for singing the Joe Lynn Turner-era Malmsteen material.
I got to play the rest of the COB CD over the weekend... A definite "10" in my book!
I think on your advice Jeff, I'll pick up those Ed Guy CD's sometime soon.
Has anyone ever heard "Majestic" by Gamma Ray? That's on my list of possibilities.
Re: New CD's
Majestic is also a great album 9/10 from me? If you aren't into Gamma Ray, this or " No World Order " is the perfect way to get you into them. A little cheesy at some points but overall it's damn good.
Re: New CD's
ya, the new Bodem is pretty good, but i would have to agree that Alexi's solo's aren't all that spectacular on this one...Hatecrew was much better....anyways- yo Shane how's that In Flames dvd???? i just ordered Testament -live in london '05 - with Skolnick!! should be shred-fucking-tastic!!!
Re: New CD's
The Allen/Lande CD is killer...can't really say that its great front to back....but i like it. Some of the guitar playing reminds me of Shane....
