Lower Icewell Keep
* Note * This post should be considered a work in progress. I will be editing it as I have the time and find out more about this area. Please feel free to add replies to help flesh out the details.

Lower Ice Well Keep

This zone is located in the Scars of Velious and is reached by first entering the City of Thurgadin. Once in Thurgadin, Icewell Keep may be entered via two different zone lines.

At the back of the city of Thurgadin, there is an intersection off the main city loop. Turning one way leads you to an ice sculpture park. Turning the other way and following the passageway will soon zone you into Upper Icewell Keep. This is the part of the zone that contains the castle of Dain IV, King of the Coldain Dwarves. If you have good faction with the Coldains, you should be in no danger here. In the throne room at the top of the castle, there is a large pit that leads straight down into Lower Icewell Keep, where the dwarves throw their undesirables to meet a certain death. This is not the best way to enter Lower Icewell, since you have no zone line to retreat to easily.

The other entrance to Icewell Keep is under the bridge shortly after you enter Thurgadin. Get a levitate and jump off or you can hop off the left side of the bridge onto a rock outcropping then slowly slide down to the floor below, avoiding all but a small amount of damage. There is a hole that leads to the zone in of Icewell Keep. It is not possible to climb out of this area once you've entered it, so non-gaters need to be sure they can get a ride out eventually.

Once you zone into Lower Icewell Keep, stay alert. This is not a zone to go afk in except for emergencies. Creatures will frequently wander all the way up to the zone line. There are four main creature types you will encounter in the Lower Keep. They are summarized below. All 4 types can drop spells and/or quest gems. They can all summon characters as well.

*** Standard Mobs ***

Frost Spike (Levels 51 to 55)

These are the worst of the creatures you'll encounter here. They are nearly un-mezzable and highly magic resistant. Always make them your first priority to kill. They can hit for up to 196 points of damage and cast knockback. They also see through invis and sneak, which can make corpse retrieval a miserable experience. They rarely drop a Jagged Ice Shard, which is a 12/29 1hp weapon with +5 vs Cold. A very nice backstab weapon for your favorite rogue.

Frosticube (Levels 51 to 55)

These are the reason you'll want to bring along some major damage dealers when you go here. They have a huge amount of hitpoints, perhaps 32k or more. They can be mezzed, so you may want to save them for last if they're part of a multi-mob pull. They can also drop bricks and small pieces of Velium, which can be used to make Velium bonings and studs.

Avalanche Golem (Levels 51 to ?)

These are not too bad as far as Icewell Keep goes. They're probably a little tougher than Fire Giants. They have a lot of hps and hit hard, but a good group should have no problems with them. They can be mezzed for crowd control. They also can drop Velium bricks and pieces.

Coldain Skeleton (Levels 48 to 51)

These are probably the easiest of the creatures you'll encounter in Lower Icewell. They do have a nasty habit of showing up when least expected, and they tend to wander more than the other mobs in the zone. They can be mezzed and often drop bone chips.

*** Named Mobs ***

Glucose (Named Mob - Level 57 to 60?)

This is apparently a randomly spawned mob that can roam. It drops the Incandescent Bracer, which is a Bard only No Drop Belt. 8 ac, +15 Charisma, +5 vs Cold, 0.6 Wt.

Grizznot the Big Assed Bear (Level 60)

Not to be confused with our beloved Talula. :) This bear is reportedly huge! He's a level 60 Warrior that likes to go on Rampages a lot. I haven't been able to confirm his loot yet. Hopefully we'll be able to drop him in our next foray into Lower Icewell.

...More to come soon!
