Game Twenty-Two - 05/22/05
Cleo returned to her apartment with Marcie, whom she instructed to put away the amulets and magic items. She then called went back to Elysium to check in on Taggert and Ryan. While there, Jacob arrived and put the two to bed as the sun would be rising soon. Cleo bid Jacob a good night and returned to her apartment for the night.
Cleo got up the next night and readied herself for her trip with Taggert to deliver his prospectus to Nikolai and Nadia. She told her ghouls that she would be heading to D.C. and might be gone overnight. Cleo asked Margaret where Marcie was and she stated that she had left. When asked where, Margaret didn’t know. This incensed Cleo, not that she was trying to be controlling, but she wanted her to look after things while she was away. Cleo wondered what Marcie was up to as usually she reported on where she was venturing off to.
Cleo arrived at the Elysium to meet up with everyone. She called ahead to Vittorio’s to make sure Jacob’s meeting was still a go. Alexi Petrunich, Primogen of NOVA, picked up and seemed very evasive when answering Cleo’s questions. Why would Alexi be bother herself with answering the phones for the emperor? Eventually Alexi confirmed Jacob’s appointment for later that evening.
Cleo then met with Taggert as he was collecting the paperwork that he and Ryan had worked on the whole previous night. “Everything went well last night, I presume?” Taggert replied with a nod and told her that they had come up with several ideas to make them rich, not to mention Nikolai. Taggert laughed as he showed Cleo the one sheet that Jacob contributed. It revealed only percentages Taggert Industries 49%, Nikolai 51%. Cleo laughed and said, “That’s my Jacob!”
Everyone convened in the garage and readied the two cars for the trip to D.C. Cleo and Taggert took his luxurious limousine while Jacob and Ryan took the Landrover®.
Cleo got in the limo and was offered a glass of vitae from Taggert. How upper crust this gentleman was. He reminded her of a kinder, perhaps gentler version of her grandfather. She felt safe while next to him and could let all her stress slide away into the night.
Eventually the they made it to D.C. and arrived at the designated point where they were to meet with Daria as they had Alex as cargo and it was customary when visiting another town that one present oneself to the sheriff before blustering in unannounced.
While waiting, Cleo and Taggert took advantage of the time to get reacquainted with one another in a more sensual way. Cleo gave way to her inhibitions and let Taggert have her right then and there. Taggert seemed hungry for her body and Cleo remembered their first night together at the NOVA Elysium.
A while later, Daria arrived with several armed guards. Cleo could see that Jacob was startled as things had changed a lot in the short time that they had been away from NOVA. Jacob told her about the cargo and suggested that they take him back out of the wall and have someone meet outside to pick up Alex. Jacob agreed and called Reggie to take care of it.
Taggert and Cleo headed towards Little Kiev, where Nikolai owned a huge mansion in old world splendor.
When they arrived Cleo got out and asked Taggert’s chauffeur for the keys to the trunk where her present for Nikolai awaited.
Cleo walked towards the door and told the guards that this was a gift for Nikolai and that it might be perceived as a weapon but it wasn’t as she would never intend in harming him as she meant a great deal to her. The guard told her that she would have to leave the item with him and someone could collect for it later. She agreed and entered the palace with Taggert.
When Cleo made her way up the stairs she could see over the bottom floor below where Nadia was working figures with various other accountants. Cleo signalled and Nadia responded with a nod and made her way to her.
Nadia introduced herself to Taggert and the two began talking about his ideas. Nadia told Cleo that Nikolai was eagerly awaiting her arrival and that she could go ahead and enter upstairs. Cleo told her about the gift and Nadia had the guard approach with the box.
Cleo walked into the room with box in hand. She could see many trophies and collectibles strewn throughout the room and knew that he was a man full of conquests and she hoped he would accept her gift, no matter how sad the circumstances were that led to Katrina’s demise.
Nikolai motioned for her to sit in the chair across from him. She placed the box on her lap and opened it to reveal the axe. She mentioned to him that he probably missed his son quite a bit and that she wanted to give him this axe that assisted in the demise of his killer, Katrina Marishevskya.
She also handed him her ashes which he held in his hands. “Cleo, you are much like a daughter to me,” he said. Cleo started feeling a blood tear from her eye as she too thought of him as an adopted family.
He then retrieved two flasks and opened the dusty remnants of Katrina and poured them into each flask. “Drink!!!” “It is custom in my country that one drinks the ashes of his victim.”
Cleo hesitated, but took the flask and watched Nikolai swallow the ashes. She replied by doing the same. She could feel something moving and grabbing hold of her from within, it was Katrina’s essence embedding the powers into Cleo’s body. Cleo suddenly felt more powerful and realized that she had gained some of Katrina’s abilities: Animalism, Animal Kin and her senses were heightened as she could perceive things that she could not before. “It is temporary,” said Nikolai. “These powers are yours for a time to do with as you see fit.”
Cleo broke off and mentioned Taggert’s business plans and hoped he would be impressed. She also mentioned the temple that they had found the night before. He seemed intrigued and told he that he might return to Manassas with them to check it out. He then stated he had to leave to another meeting but would talk with Taggert himself as he trusted that Cleo would not let him down.
Cleo exited with Nikolai and made her way back to Nadia and Taggert. Nikolai said he would meet them in Georgetown but Cleo mentioned they were to meet with Jacob and maybe he wouldn’t care to since what happened recently between the two of them. Cleo then handed him Jacob’s letter and told him not to read it until she had left as she didn’t want to witness his anger as it frightened her. He agreed but still wished to meet up with them.
Taggert and Cleo left and thanked both Nikolai and Nadia for meeting with them and headed for Georgetown to meet up with Dane.
They soon arrived to their destination and when they got out they saw Jacob and Ryan already waiting for them. Jacob said he had another errand to do and was going to visit with Nebasha. This alarmed Cleo as she didn’t want him to make the already bad situation worse. He was soon off and Cleo with Taggert and Ryan in tow made her way to the shop that both she and Dane owned.
Dane seemed ecstatic about seeing Cleo again and filled her in on all the latest gossip. He told her about how the clans were all segregating themselves from one another. He also told her that he hadn’t seen much of Sandra as she seemed to be keeping to herself. Cleo then asked Dane for a new dress from their shop and soon came out in an exquisite black dress. Taggert seemed impressed and they made their way to one of the restaurants that they both owned.
After talking a little more, Nikolai pulled up and stated to Cleo that he was going to return with them to Manassas and that he would be taking Ryan back with him. Cleo agreed and her and Taggert bid Dane adieu and left back for Manassas.
After arriving back in Bricktown Ryan got out of Nikolai’s car and headed up to Elysium with Cleo. He seemed worried and wondered where Jacob was, She tried to reassure him that he was OK, but Ryan wasn’t buying it. He said that he was tired and would head to bed. Cleo knew that Ryan was just blowing her off so that he could sneak out and find Jacob, so she waited on the balcony nearby to see when he exited his room.
Cleo then heard rachel call her name and said that there was a phone call for her, it was Vittorio. Cleo thought to herself, “Why would Vittorio be calling her this late at night?”
She answered the phone and on the other side was Vittorio, stating that he was actually calling from below outside the club. Cleo thought how can he be calling from a cell phone? They don’t work in Manassas. Could this be another trick like the one Katrina had done when she impersonated various members of the vampiric council in Bricktown? Cleo responded and asked if he remembered their conversation earlier when they met. The one about Jacob. But the caller wasn’t giving any further information other than “Meet me downstairs out front, now!” Cleo sensed danger as she didn’t really believe this was Vittorio and maybe she should call out for Ryan or call Jeremiah and Nikolai.
The unknown awaited her…
