Game Twenty-Three: 06/06/05
January 11, 1991

Cleo went to Ryan’s room and knocked on the door. When he answered, she asked him to accompany her downstairs to meet Vittorio Ghiribaldi, the Emperor of Alexandria. Cleo wasn’t sure if this was a ruse, as she had been tricked before by Katrina. Ryan agreed to tag along and help if need be. They arrived at the front of the club and met with the man claiming to be Vittorio. It was him. Cleo sent Ryan back to his room. Vittorio expressed interest in seeing the temple at the Manassas site.

They arrived at the site, driven by Adam. They got out and Cleo headed towards the tree that revealed the secret passage that Samantina had showed the group the night before. Cleo seemed to have trouble getting it to work, so she suggested that they take the direct route as that would be the quickest.

Soon, they arrived at the temple and Vittorio was amazed at its beauty and size. They quickly entered in the exposed part that had been torn apart when Jacob had attacked one of the garou the previous night. Vittorio told Cleo that he was annoyed that besides her, no one had mentioned this place to him and that the justicars were probably up to no good since they didn’t reveal this place’s whereabouts in the debriefing.

While there, they examined the interior of the temple. Vittorio activated the sigils that controlled it, displacing the temple out of their reality. They talked about the writings on the walls and Vittorio explained to her the meaning of the history of Caine displayed above her. He told her that it stated that “the three would defeat the 13 antideluevians.” Cleo wondered if the “three” were Damien, Jacob and her.

Vittorio caught Cleo up on what had been happening in Alexandria and she informed him that she did not trust Alexi as she was sure he had not received messages that she told Alexi to give to him. Cleo also told him of the staph that she acquired from the defeated garou mage. He seemed mildly intrigued. He then finished his spell that revealed the purpose of the temple. He grew ecstatic and a rush of elation filled his body as he determined that the purpose of the temple was to magnify the caster’s powers to an infinite magnitude. He told Cleo that he could do anything with the power of this temple at his fingertips. This frightened her as she could see that he was corrupted by so much power.

Cleo told Vittorio that she was worried that maybe this was too much power for anyone and that she feared that the power would consume him. She didn’t want to lose her mentor and he brushed off her concern and told her not to worry, that he could control it. “As always, these things never went down well,” Cleo thought to herself. She recognized the powerlust in others that she had crossed paths with. After talking a little further, they proceeded to her chantry where Vittorio inspected the chamber where Phelan made his torture chamber.

Vittorio scanned the area and told Cleo that Marcie had died during the battle with the node creature. She asked how he knew this and he picked up a piece of clothing from the now decayed corpse of one of the mages and instructed her to look further and become one with the cloth to see what it had seen. Cleo was surprised at the awakening of this new power that had always been a part of her since she had first become Tremere. What other knowledge would be awakened within her. She was soon able to see what had happened to the mage and a bit of what the cloth had seen previously to her demise.

Cleo then told Vittorio what she saw and he flashed her a wry smile indicating that he had known what she was able to see. She could connect to immaterial objects to witness the past laid forth in front of said items to determine what had happened to someone. Vittorio told her to be careful of what she touched as some objects were cursed and could infect her with entities. She thought back at what had happened to Damien and then nodded back in agreement.

Vittorio said that it was getting late and they both needed to rest before the upcoming Regency meeting that would be held back at his place in Alexandria. He asked Cleo if it was okay if he created a sigil to easily transport to this chantry in the future. He was very interested in Manassas and would probably be visiting more often to inspect the temple. She agreed and he outlined a sigil in ashes that was similar to the ones Cleo had drawn in various places before. This was great for her, as she could now jump from her apartment to her chantry and then to Vittorio’s place, without even exiting a building.

Both Vittorio and Cleo returned to her apartment and she bid him adieu before he made his way back to Alexandria. Cleo quickly went upstairs to check on the coin that was left behind in her safe deposit box. Upon touching it to the palm of her hand, she could see how the creature that had killed the mages. It destroyed Marcie’s essence and placed within her body, its own being. The creature then took the coin and put another in its place. Marcie’s body looked decayed and seemed to be losing coherency. Cleo was sad, as she had grown close to her and felt that she helped awaken her to new rituals that she had not yet experienced.

Cleo hoped that Marcie’s death was quick and painless as she hated to think that she suffered at the hands of this beast. She thought to herself, the first thing she must do the next day is to contact Patricia, as she might be able to help her track it down and destroy it once and for all, before it made its way back to the node…
