The Malkevian Incident
Cleo assisted Jacob in helping him separate the Malkevians from Joan, He told them she was infected and they shouldn’t make contact with her.
Jacob used his brute strength to ply them off, but there seemed to be too many of them. Cleo tried to use her path of force to separate Joan off from the others. She ran to the bed and activated her force shield but was unable to extend it around both her and Joan. Cleo didn’t concentrate hard enough but tried again to less success.
Meanwhile, Jacob was able to talk Emmanuel down. He seemed frightened yet aggressive, not to mention insane as all Malkevians were. Cleo knew to be careful when reading a Malkevian’s mind as they could easily detect when someone was using auspex on them. This skill was a trait of their clan just it was for the Tremere. She listened to Emmanuel speak and had overheard him say that Joan was their fulcrum, an agent through great powers are exercised. Eventually, Jacob went after Comet and some the others, as he could see that they had made their way to the street corner.
When he approached them, Comet screamed, “STAY AWAY FROM ME, JACOB. STAY AWAY FROM ME!!!!!!!!!”
Jacob was startled and he let him go. What had he done to Comet that was so terrible, Cleo pondered?
Jacob returned to Emmanuel and asked him to stay to look after Joan for the next 24 hours and eventually he agreed.
As Cleo headed back to her chantry, she could feel some of her powers fade away. She would no longer be able to communicate with the animals as Katrina had. She had a feeling of closure and loss, a recurring theme in her life. She feared that she would soon lose everything when the group went back in time to find Damien and stop Hirut. Cleo had grown used to being an outcast, though this time, she was truly scared to lose everything she had built, namely her friends and surrogate family. If she only knew what awaited her at the chantry, she might have broken down right there.

Readying for Battle
Cleo spent the day getting ready for her mission that would lead her back in time. She attained a new outfit from Giorgio that might reflect the attire of the time period. She went to local stores for supplies and attained armor and cape as had Jacob.
Cleo and Jacob were invited to loot through Nikolai’s treasures for items that might help them on their journey. She found a Blood Sack, made from human flesh, it kept 20bp safely protected from the ravages of decay. She also found chapters 18 and 20 of the Enochian book set that she had acquired from Ba’ashou.
After sifting through the items, they left to meet with the other vampires in Bricktown to go over their plans. Cleo learned that Jeremiah and Samantina would be going along with them. Cleo suggested to Jacob that this might not be a great idea, but Jacob was being an ass and showing his less desirable side to her and told her to tell him herself. She wondered about this bi-polarity of Jacob and wondered if he really did care what happened to her. For as selfless as he proclaimed to be, he had weird ways of showing it. Cleo relented when she saw the feelings Jeremiah had towards Samantina. After the way Jacob had been acting, maybe it was a good idea to have someone else tagging along who could keep him in line.
Taggert mentioned that Melinda had been spotted in the vicinity. This triggered Cleo’s memory to give Taggert the tech security device that she received from the Technocracy. She explained to him how it worked and advised him to get Jeremiah or Reggie to set up the connectors throughout the vicinity of Bricktown.
Taggert reminded Jacob and Cleo about their latest meeting with the techs. They left in Jacob’s tech-car and headed towards Falls Church. During the drive neither talked to each other, as Cleo was feeling distance from Jacob once again as he prepared himself for his “martyrdom.” She couldn’t understand at how he could bring out the individual in others and not allow himself the dignity of creating his own destiny, especially not one that belonged to a belief or God.
They arrived at Hadden Industries and were greeted by the same security guard that they met previously. He led them to an elderly woman, Barabara Wadsworth, who told them that she would be meeting with them as Mr. Hadden was far too busy. She told them to wait for what seemed like forever and then reappeared with several huge crates.
“Here are your fifty computerized armbands,” stated the elderly tech. Cleo thought they would only be receiving two, not fifty. Jacob was just as bewildered and Cleo decided to play along with the woman. She said that this was the amount specified by Vittorio Ghiribaldi. Cleo thought that Vittorio was probably getting ready to arm the local Tremere to ensure the stronghold of their power within the Camarilla.
Jacob received his crossbow weapon which was specifically designed for their upcoming trip. The woman showed them how to operate their armbands and said that they needed to remain in the crates for at least five hours or they would diminish the shelf life of the circuitry. Jacob mentioned to Cleo that the storage containers would be a great way to preserve blood and wanted to bring one on their journey to the past.
They thanked the tech and promptly left to go back to Manassas. They arrived and each went back to their apartment and slept the sleep of death until they would rise once again to another night of vampiric existence.

The Great Betrayal
When Cleo readied for her final day before her mission, she gave instructions to all her ghouls on what their duties would be while she was gone. She was careful to give Margaret separate instructions as she would watch over everyone. She gave her a list of phone numbers to call if the need should arise. Cleo then met with Kasper and Zabrina and told them what to do and let them both know that she had enough friends in high places in the Tremere that would know if they were stepping out of line. She then grabbed her belongings and headed to Elysium to meet the other fellow travellers. Soon, everyone showed up and Cleo was shocked at what Jacob was wearing, a monks outfit. Very bizarre!
Nikolai appeared and stated that he was going to drive them to the temple. He was going to help them in their journey as someone had to help operate the controls. They got into the limo and headed to the temple. On the way there, Cleo gave Nikolai one of her coins to her chantry and told him to contact Shamus in Maryland, if there was any trouble. She thanked Nikolai for everything that he had done for her. He appreciated her gratitude.
They arrived and headed towards the temple.
Cleo saw something out of the corner of her eye near her chantry and told the others that she was going to check it out.
When she arrived at her destination, she scanned the area with her new tech-armband. She could see a sliver of energy where the entrance to her chantry was. She proceeded to head inside, not knowing what awaited her.
She entered and immediately knew that something was wrong. The inside wall were covered in a black organic substance from top to bottom. She could hear a loud thumping coming from below. Somehow, the node creature must have regained access to her chantry.
Cleo spent time testing her amulets and rings on the substance, but to no avail. She decided to pull out the garou staph and the black liquid reached out as if to gain control of it. Luckily, she was able to grab it back before it was too late. She thought that if the beast wanted the staph, maybe she should destroy it. She snapped it into two and could hear the thumping get louder as the black matter receded back into the cracks and crevices in the walls.
The creature blasted its way from the chamber below and Cleo was soon face to tentacle with it. She could see Patricia at one side and her mentor, Vittorio on the other. The beast had ensnared Vittorio and he was beginning to turn to ash. Cleo called upon her path of force and created a shield around herself. The monstrosity tried attacking her, but was easily repelled by Cleo’s shield which sent it across the room.
Cleo tried getting more aggressive with it by running into it full force with her bodyshield. The beast screamed as she walked through its membranes. It released both of its victims and howled its last cries of life before it died. A thick, green fluid left its body and poured down the hole it had created to enter the room from the chamber below. Cleo looked back at where the creature once stood and noticed that it was too late to save either individual. Nothing of Vittorio remained except his garments and magic items.
Cleo thought of doing the unthinkable, eat his ashes.
She scooped up some of his embers and let them trickle down her throat. Suddenly, she could see Vittorio was there to lay a trap that would destroy her. He had been sent by Meerlinda of the Council of Seven, as he was her lapdog.
This betrayal was almost too much for her. She could feel the tears building inside her, but she knew she had to be strong as others were counting on her.
“Damn everyone and their betrayals!!!”
She exited her chantry with Patricia’s body and saw that she was surrounded by werewolves. Where was everyone?
Cleo tried to call Jacob on her cell phone, but made no connection. She saw the garou were readying for an attack and immediately activated her celerity. She rushed into the temple and was immediately confronted by a werewolf that had been attacked and was trying to repair itself.
She threw her force projectiles at it which divided it into two halves, though she could see its heart was still intact. As she made her way to the tunnel, she could see the beast reform its two halves back together into one again. She activated the ticks and was immediately at the bottom of the tunnel, which startled Jacob.
Cleo saw everyone awaiting her below. She told them Vittorio was dead. Jacob snarled at her,“Did YOU kill Vittorio?” “Of course not,” she replied. “The node creature attacked him, and in fact, it he was actually his trap that created his own demise.”
By this time, she had had enough and was ready to go.
Everyone entered the room. Cleo went to work on figuring out how to get the device started. It took her about half an hour to start it. Nikolai then said his goodbyes as he left to return to Alexandria to warn everyone that the shield would be gone as Vittorio was dead.
Cleo turned back to the three and told them to enter the platform. Within seconds, they were gone. She looked around and kissed the operating device as if to possibly say goodbye to this world and then she leapt into the time stream, not knowing where she would end up.

Island of Mystery
Cleo arrived at the temple platform and looked below at the others, but everything seemed different. It was ruined, decayed and destroyed. The operating device was damaged and not working. The group would have to find another way to travel in this mysteriously new land. Jacob, being barefoot, touched the ground and could feel the sand burn his flesh. Cleo remembered Vittorio’s shoes and gave them to Jacob to wear.
Cleo asked if anyone had binoculars as she had an idea about using her new powers to investigate this place from above. Jacob snarled once again, and wouldn’t give up his binoculars. He seemed vindictive towards her. Cleo was at wits end with him and turned to Jeremiah to ask for his pair. He gave them to her and she went up via telekinesis. She saw that they were on an island that stretched for miles and saw a symbol that seemed to be the origin point from where the power that caused the destruction emanated from.
She came back down and gave the binoculars back to Jeremiah, who was ogling Samantina, almost oblivious to the dire situation that they were in. Jeremiah rushed into the water as Cleo and Jacob yelled from him to wait, but it was too late as the damage was already done, his techband had been destroyed. Jacob scolded him and told him to be careful as it was easily damaged by water.
They decided to travel along the coast and follow the footprints that led East as they thought that those might be Damien’s and Jordan’s. Jacob sealed all their belongings into the waterproof bags as they headed East to find their friends. Cleo thought to herself, it would have been nice if they had thought to have brought an inflatable raft.
As Cleo, Jeremiah and Samantina skated near the water’s edge, Jacob decided to go deeper into the water. She wondered what he was doing and soon realized what was really going on was that he had already begun separating himself from everyone and was going to play the martyrdom to the hilt.
The group trudged along into the unknown 1,000,000 years in their past…
