Game Seventeen - 04/10/05
Upon the arrival of the group back to Manassas, Jacob was quickly escorted back to the Elysium jail cells.
Cleo had asked Alex if she could interrogate Jacob herself but refused her request and told her that both her and Katrina would do the questioning as he expressed concern for her being alone with him. Cleo didn’t like this as she knew the only way of getting through to him was if she went in alone and appealed to him a longtime friend.
Alex decided to go back to the club and deal with Sandra and Roman, which left the two to questioning Jacob. Cleo could see the blood lust in Katrina’s eyes and knew she was up to no good as she tended to be the most vengeful in the group. Katrina had some things to do first which left Cleo time to go downstairs and aide in the closing of the club for the night.
Cleo arrived at Rachel’s area and told her that they should give last call soon as they didn’t want to be breaking any laws so soon after opening. Last call was given and Sandra and company exited hastily, almost as if she had been up to something. Cleo decided to follow.
Sandra and company made their way back to the parking lot and were discussing what had transpired that night, when Cleo crept closer and could hear their voices. She decided to obfuscate and get closer to make out what was being said. She could hear Sandra bragging that she had the photos of what she had been instructed to come for and that she hadn’t heard from Jacqueline for some time. Cleo wondered to herself, “Picture?”
Cleo knew she was outnumbered and decided to go back to the club and tell Alex of this. After telling him what Sandra had done, he decided to get ready and go after her to decide what to do with her later once she was back at the Elysium. As he went back to his office to call Reggie and Jeremiah, Cleo went up to talk to Jacob, where she ran into Katrina.
Both entered the prison cell and Jacob could only see Cleo, who began her interrogation. Cleo seemed to get more than she thought Jacob would be willing to reveal. She had told him of what she saw in the hospital and what it meant to her.
Cleo soon had surmised that Jacob had helped two people with something that was greater than any one else involved, something that was so important that if the wrong individuals found out, they would surely bring about Gehenna. Cleo then told him about Sandra’s recent exploits while here. He expressed concern and told Cleo that if he were free, he could easily deal with her. Cleo called out to the air and said, “You can show yourself.” “Katrina, appear please.” Then she appeared out of thin air. Cleo stated that they needed to set Jacob free as he was the only one able to catch her and deal with her.
Katrina didn’t like the idea at all. But Cleo turned around to face her and said, “You really need to help us here as this greater than you and may bring about Gehenna.” After further badgering Cleo got through to Katrina and was able to coax her into being silent. Jacob and Cleo devised a plan that would have him control her with presence much in the same way that he did earlier that night. She complied and was soon feeling nothing but great desire to help Jacob and acted a lot like a schoolgirl with a mad crush. This sickened Katrina, who was quickly getting on Cleo’s nerves.
Cleo unlocked the cell and let Jacob free.
Katrina was so beside herself, she stormed off back to her place for the night. Cleo went downstairs to Alex and revealed that Jacob was free. Alex was unnerved and asked how this had happened. Cleo was still giddy and immediately Alex knew something was wrong with her. Cleo then started sobbing, “Where is Jacob?”“ I’m lost without my Jacob!” Shortly after she started to come to her senses and had stated that probably had been her that set him free by using his presence abilities on her. Alex lorded over Cleo and stated that she was to leave with him and find Jacob. She politely refused as she needed to return to her senses and thought she should stay to recover. Alex left with Reggie as Jeremiah was missing too.
Needles to say, Nadia arrived and asked about Jacob and was not happy to learn he had escaped. Cleo told her that club had been profitable and she was happy about that. She was also notified about Sandra’s recent exploits and asked to talk with Alex on the phone. She advised that it would not be prudent for anyone to take action against her at this time as the Brujah didn’t need to start a clan war with the Ventrue.
Alex complied and they let her go and rounded up Jacob and Jeremiah and returned back to Manassas. Jacob was locked back up and everyone retire for the night.
Cleo talked with Marcie and Alex about what they saw at the club and quizzed Marcie on her meeting with the mage she encountered earlier. Marcie said that the mage wanted to meet with Cleo at a public place the next afternoon. Cleo agreed and told her to notify the mage about meeting at the VIP room at the club. Cleo decided that she would go to the chantry’s future site before she had her meeting. She also asked Trey how the dark room was coming as she needed to get the photos archived and documented soon. He said that it was set up and had taken some great photos and would show her tomorrow. Cleo then decided to retire for the night.
Next afternoon, the trial of Jacob would begin.
Cleo woke the next day and quickly dressed then headed towards the Elysium. She went to check on Jacob before the trial. He seemed fine, though he asked her if she still sought out her past and wanted to make amends for what he had done to her the other night. He asked her if she would mind him using a gift that he acquired previously which he had used on Damien once before. This gift is able to unlock certain mysteries that kept from the individual that is having the gift bestowed upon. Cleo agreed as she had always been eager to learn more about her past.
She relaxed and he put his hands upon her forehead and concentrated his energy to her mind.
Before long images raced through Cleo’s mind and the previous haze began to reveal concrete memories of her childhood, her great grandfather, Spain in the early 1800s and how she wound up in D.C.
Having all these memories wash over her at once made Cleo’s heart race as she felt the excitement of knowing more about her origins. She now knew where she came from and who she was. She also remembered a long forgotten power, that of obtenebration (shadow play). A gift only given to those who are Lasombra. She also remembered that she was a Lasombra ghoul within the great Monçada family, that was vast and many.
As the sensation began to recede and fade, Cleo came back to her full senses and thanked Jacob by bestowing a kiss upon his forehead. Cleo expressed her thanks and exited the cell as Nikolai was soon to arrive. She radioed and heard that he was pulling up to the garage and Cleo decided to head down to the back entrance to meet him as she knew he would be angry at Jacob.
Nikolai arrived at the door and only said one word,“Jacob!” Cleo motioned for him to enter the back entrance and proceeded towards the elevator. The ride to Elysium was silent, Cleo could hear the heartbeats of those next to her and nothing else.
They arrived at Elysium and Nikolai pushed ahead of Cleo and opened the cell door and stormed in , immediately closing the door behind him.
For what seemed like an eternity, Nikolai exited the cell and bellowed, “Do what you want with him, he’s no further use to me,” and exited the building. Cleo looked over at Alex and gave a sigh of relief. It would be up to them to decide upon Jacob’s punishment.
Alex told all vampires that they would meet at later and decide his fate, attendance of vampires and their ghouls was mandatory!
Later the vampires all started convening around Elysium. Ghouls were instructed to stay in the VIP lounge area of the club while the vampires would be performing Jacob’s trial.
Vampires entered the upper sanctuary and quickly found their seats while Jeremiah went to retrieve the prisoner.
Cleo could hear Katrina talking under her breath and wishing that the verdict be severe. Cleo hadn’t realized at how much Cleo hated him. Was she jealous? Or had something transpired between the two that she knew nothing about? It just struck Cleo as very odd.
The prisoner was brought forth to kneel in front of Alex, the Baron. Cleo thought to herself, what a joke this whole thing was, Alex was turning out to be a very weak ruler and she started to question if he had what it took to maintain order in the Bricktown area.
Alex sheathed his claws and announced that Jacob was stripped of his possessions and his title and basically anything that he had in a materialistic sense. Then he told him to stand up and struck at him across his bare chest, just deep enough to let him remember who was in charge.
Then Alex said he was free and no longer prisoner.
Katrina looked at everyone in amazement and stormed off, while the others made disparaging remarks under their breath then exited towards the VIp lounge where Alex made sure everyone was up to speed on who was in charge and who everyone was in the surrounding area.
After the meeting most retired to their individual tasks, but Cleo headed over to her townhouse and retrieved an item that needed to find it’s home once again.
Cleo then head over to the Elysium where she ran into Jacob and gave him his weapon back. She asked him if he would be interested in accompanying her on her trip to the site where her future chantry would be built. He agreed also stating they needed to find his friend that helped with hiding Jacqueline.
Both got on his motorcycle, but this time Cleo expressed interest in learning how to drive, Jacob agreed and let her take the controls while shadowing her.
They headed out of Manassas and towards the area that was their destination, stopping once.
WHile they rested on the side of the road Jacob decided to tell her more about what really happened previously. It had confirmed her suspicions but revealed a bit more than she was expecting. Jacob and Jacqueline, brother and sister? One could hardly believe it. She knew then that what Vittorio told her was a lie and she could no further trust him than she could Sandra a great many of the vampires in Alexandria.
All these secrets within secrets were so unnecessary to Cleo as she knew what it was like to branded as she grew up in a family that was always in hiding. They were in the minority and the majority wanted the either subservient or dead. Having grown up inside this she wanted no part of it and would promise, to herself, that she would do anything within her power to make sure that the majority would know the bite and sting of the underdogs of this society.
