Game Eighteen - 04/24/05
Cleo left town with Jacob Matteo to venture to the future site of her chantry. After some distance, where Cleo had been driving the motorcycle with assistance from Jacob, they stopped in the general vicinity of their destination point. Cleo thought to herself that she did rather well on her first drive and this possibility at a newfound freedom of mobility excited her as she had always relied on others to drive her where she needed to go.

After parking the cycle behind a nearby bush, both headed towards the area that had previously been where they encountered Phelan and various Sabbot. Cleo noticed the fenced laying on the ground that had once been electrified. Heading along the edge of the fence they proceeded towards the section where the armory once was located.

Jacob then decided to venture to the spot where the bodies were buried and in Cleo’s eyes, he suddenly vanished. Cleo thought this was not right, Jacob was powerless bar his weapon that she returned to him. Someone or something was here and possibly laid a trap.

Cleo decided to stay put for the moment until she could possibly see Jacob again.

Nothing.

She then decided to move towards the area that Jacob headed to and could suddenly see him and everything else faded from her vision to be replaced by nothingness. Jacob zoomed over, in a way only a few others that Cleo has seen, could do. He took her hand and headed to a building that was familiar to Cleo, the temple where she retrieved her safe-deposit box from Phelan and other Sabbat.

They walked up the steps that made its way to the enormous front doors that adorned the front of the building. Around the door Cleo noticed something she hadn’t paid attention to the last time she was here, she saw before her many tiny Tremere sigils positioned all over the temple. She thought that if she had enough time she could probably make out some of them.

Jacob wasn’t as inclined to want to go into the temple as his previous experience in the area probably frightened him to some extent. Not that he would ever admit this, but Cleo even felt a chill as they both heard child-like laughter emitting from the inside, not to mention the scratching made by someone’s claws. Jacob pulled her off to the side behind one of the pillars so they could escape the possibility of the danger from within. Cleo replied that she still would like to go inside where Jacob replied that he didn’t think it was a wise idea but would go if she wanted to. Cleo thought for a moment and looked at her watch and realized that time was ticking on and they still had to find out what happened to Ryan before they returned to Manassas. Cleo said they should try and find a way out of this otherrealm and leave the area as it would be better if they brought others to deal with this mess. Jacob made his way to the ether and took off his shoe and threw it into the void.

The shoe disappeared.

Then Jacob tried to enter but became very frightened at what possible dangers lay before him, then panicked and pulled back. Cleo stroked his head and told him everything was OK and he needn’t to be scared as surely this was the only way out for them but, Cleo herself tried and felt the same fear and could not. Jacob then pulled the strength from within himself and grabbed Cleo and quickly went through the portal.

They exited back into the snowy barren land that once housed the Sabbat training grounds. They could both see where they entered and ran towards the motorcycle. This time Jacob took the controls as the snow was something that would have been too much for Cleo to earn her driving skills in. They both agreed to track down Ryan and travelled towards the abandoned gas station where The Manassas officials picked up Jacob.

After some time they arrived at the station and Cleo saw a pay phone and got off the bike and raced over to it so she could call Vittorio. She dialed his number and left him a message for him to call her back at the number given.

Jacob then called Ryan and after a few rings, he picked up and proceeded to speak when Jacob’s phone chimed in another caller, it was Vittorio. Jacob told Ryan to stay on the line while he answered his other call. Jacob then gave the phone to Cleo. She told Vittorio about their experience at the Sabbat battle grounds and mentioned that the temple was not destroyed. “What temple?” he said. Vittorio must have neglected to remember that Cleo told him about it in the debriefing. “Nobody tells me anything, I’m the bloody emperor any other Tremere seem to know more than I do.” He sighed, then thanked Cleo for giving him the information. She also asked if it was possible for him to attend the meeting she was going to have with the mage that Marcie found. He said he would try to be there if time permitted, but couldn’t promise anything. Then he hung up.

She gave the phone back to Jacob. He asked where Ryan was and he said he was staying with his sister in Fredericksburg, Va. Jacob asked the address and after receiving it he said he and Cleo would be there shortly, and for him to stay put.

Both got back on the motorcycle and headed towards Ryan’s house.
The travelled for some time under the Gibbous moon that luckily wasn’t full. They passed many wooded areas as they got closer to Fredericksburg. Cleo could hear something from the forest on her right, something animal-like and something very fast. She mentioned this to Jacob over the wind that was whistling past their ears. He saw an exit up ahead and turned off and made his way to the stoplight. Cleo could hear the animalistic sound getting nearer. “Floor It,” she said and Jacob sped them down the road where they saw a familiar sign, Wal-Mart. Both decided to go there and purchase some items for protection. First they went to the gas station and refueled as the tank was almost empty.

While there, Jacob asked instructions abut another route to Fredericksburg than the main highway. The old man proceeded to tell him another route down the road they were just on. He thanked him and both got back on the cycle and headed to the store.

Coming up to the parking lot, they noticed a white van that seemed to be following them but eventually parked near the entrance of the store. Getting out of the van was a large man, someone that seemed familiar to Cleo. She reflected back and remembered a very similar man from the strange encounter that she and Damien saw above the bank in Alexandria.

They both went inside and made their way to the weapons area. On the way there, Cleo again saw the fat man and looked at the cart he was pushing and could see that he had it filled with Barbie® dolls. How bizarre…

Cleo saw sunglasses around the counter and felt she could use a pair right about then as the bright lights were a bit much, as she wasn’t used to the glare since she became a vampire.

Jacob waited for the help to arrive and when she did asked her about crossbows and guns. “So, are you going human hunting?” Cleo turned around to face the assistant with her jaw dropped as Jacob stated, “Uhhh, no…” “I don’t think we’ll be human hunting tonight.” Just then he saw the manager head towards the security window. Jacob’s sensed things were not right in here and that they both should leave quickly. Jacob told the help to forget it as he realized they were running late and needed to leave. Jacob then told to Cleo that they should leave quickly. Cleo stated that she needed to at least purchase the glasses and Jacob quickly paid the cashier on their way out.

While exiting, they could see the fat man pushing his cart towards his white van and opened up the back and dumped all the dolls into the back.

How strange!!!

Let’s go now!!! They both hopped onto the cycle and noticed the van following them again. Jacob sped up and eventually the van turned. The both expressed a sigh of relief as they travelled down the road towards Ryan’s.

On the way they passed a forest that seemed bizarre and out of place. They could hear howling and could once again hear that they were being followed. The blood raced through Cleo as she feared they were about to be attacked, but suddenly the edge of the forest appeared and the sounds stopped.

Then they came upon the exit and made their way to the stoplight. Jacob turned left to go to where thought his house would be. Then Jacob noticed sirens in the distance and so pulled over at an intersection. Both could see people appearing from behind buildings and walking towards them. The sheriff got out of the car and headed towards the motorcycle. He asked them what they were doing in Fredericksburg and Jacob replied they were here to meet up with someone who lived nearby and they wouldn’t remain long. The sheriff agreed they should move and and finish what they needed to quickly as strangers aren’t taken to so kindly in this area. They headed to Ryan’s but were followed all the way to his house. They went up to the door and knocked. Ryan answered and Jacob could not resist in giving him a big hug and huge kiss. Once he realized what he had done Jacob went into a rage and started to frenzy. Cleo told Ryan to run into the other room, but before he could Jacob grabbed a chair from the dining room and broke off a leg and thrust the wooden stake into his own chest.

This startled Ryan and sent him into panic. Cleo quickly told him to run and get some damp towels while she dealt with this. She didn’t really need them, but knew it would get Ryan focused on something else.
She waited a few seconds and stroked Jacob’s head again and grabbed the stake and pulled it out. Jacob rose to his feet and healed himself. Ryan was surprised as he came out of the bathroom with the towels to see him “alive” again. Cleo looked out the window and could see various individuals starting to surround the house from a distance.

Jacob asked where the others were and Ryan replied that they went to an undisclosed location to be safe from their pursuers. Cleo told Jacob what she saw outside and Jacob advised them to get the hell out of there.

They made their way to the garage and got in the car and started it up. Next Jacob plowed through the garage door and sped past the soon to be attackers and proceeded towards the exit to leave this town far behind.
While travelling down the main road, the townspeople were swelling in pursuit and fired upon the vehicle which took out the back window. “Get down” screamed Jacob as he floored it as fast as the car could go.
Cleo called upon her path of force in a way she hadn’t practiced that much with… sending a time manipulative blockade down the road the would hopefully take out the tires of one of the oncoming vehicles. Instead it took out the car’s engine and Cleo could see various passengers in that car flying and tumbling through the windshield and onto the pavement behind them.

Next Jacob saw someone racing up their left side, someone covered in fur and much like an animal. Cleo stuck herself partly out the window and threw a projectile from her hands and landed it into the chest of the beast, which knocked it back off its feet. They sped by and onto the highway. The attackers were pursuing them down the interstate as the area of Fredericksburg receded so did the attackers.

They travelled for awhile and eventually arrived back in Bricktown where they screeched towards the entrance to Jacob’s club that was no longer his.

Cleo got out and headed towards her apartment to round up Marcie to prepare for the meeting that was to begin a few minutes. She entered her abode and called for Marcie, who replied “Yes, my lady?”

“Quickly get some items to help secure the VIP meeting room before we meet with… what was her name?” quipped Cleo. “Patricia,” Marcie replied and ran into her room to retrieve the components for the ritual that would secure the VIP room. Cleo changed and exited to go back to the club.

She entered and ran into Alex, who was exiting the VIP room and looked at her with a disdainful look. “Where have you been?” he stated. “You don’t want to know,” she chimed back. “Along story, but let’s just say Fredericksburg is full of nasty creatures that I don’t care to meet again for a long time.” She stated she was to meet with a mage soon and he asked her if she needed any assistance and she said that she thought she could go it alone.

Cleo walked towards the front entrance to wait for the mage and could see a bush hopping towards her. The sight of this almost sent Cleo into a fit of laughter, but soon realized the bush changed into the visage of a red-haired woman in a robe coming towards her.

Cleo asked if she was Patricia and she nodded in agreement and then Cleo motioned towards the entrance and the mage seemed wary about entering. “It’s perfectly safe, you will come to no harm here.” Patricia agreed to enter and they made their way to the VIP room, when Cleo noticed something protruding from her back. “What is that that you have under your robe on your back,” Cleo stated. Pulling underneath her robe she brought forth her knife and said, “Oh this?” “I keep my knife with me at all times, so to protect myself from any harm.” “It goes, where I go!”
Cleo said that it was fine but she shouldn’t worry as she was different than most Tremere who were an untrustworthy lot at best.

Cleo then asked her if she knew about making a chantry secure as she wanted to build one and needed use of a mage’s talents to secure it. Patricia acknowledged that she had done this before. The mage slyly asked Cleo if she knew of a nexus point nearby. Cleo replied that if a hypothetical node were to exist, would she have the talent to cleanse it if a said node was tainted. The mage said she would but would need assistance from her sisters, The Daughters of the Moon. Cleo unmasked the charade and revealed that there was indeed a node here in Manassas.

Patricia responded that she and her sisters had sensed the existence of a node. The mage then asked Cleo that if she and her sisters were to fix the node and help with the chantry, if they would be able to come to it and absorb some of its power on some occasions. Cleo agreed and then asked her to return here in two nights at around 1am and they would venture over to the place where the nexus point was. Patricia agreed then left.

Cleo then headed towards Alex and asked him where Jacob was. He said he went to see Katrina in the sewers. Cleo asked if he wanted her to teleport them to the sewer entrance and he agreed. They made their way outside when they ran into Jacob. Jacob said Katrina was in a terrible state and had done something very bad but that we shouldn’t get mad as she was wanting to atone for her misdeeds. Cleo knew that Katrina was probably nearby obfuscating. “Coward, show yourself, now!!!”

Katrina appeared sobbing and withdrawn.

SHe started apologizing to the group but looked at Cleo and said I have wronged you the most. I messed with Trey’s photos and what he thought was pictures of Damien’s scrawl wa really a fake. She also admitted to telling Sandra that they had a sample of her blood. Cleo raged at Katrina and immediately screamed “If so much as one hair of a Tremere is harmed due to Sandra’s retribution on hearing of this information, she would personal exact vengeance upon Katrina herself. Jacob darted in between the two and gave Cleo a look and told her to back down as Katrina was really sorry for what she had done and there was other matters that were more serious.

Katrina had sired a child, another female named Patricia. Alexander eyed his blood-filled gaze over to Katrina and unsheathed his claws. Jacob said back away. Which Alex responded “Do not proceed to tell me what to do for I am the Baron and…”But he could not finish as Jacob got into his face and screamed “You’re not even a real Baron, you were only appointed by Nikolai as a figurehead, nothing more.” Cleo then cut in and said let’s all sit down and calmly discuss this in an orderly fashion. Jacob walked away from the group and headed back to Elysium. Cleo said to Katrina that this would be the finish of their friendship and that she must never expect her assistance in the future. The she got up and followed Jacob.

Cleo watched Jacob go towards the elevator and asked him what he was doing and he replied that he was going upstairs to sire a child as it was his right and that Ryan would be the one. Cleo followed him upstairs where they ran into Ryan awaiting Jacob’s arrival. They then entered the cell area and Cleo closed the door behind them. Jacob held Ryan’s neck and tilted it to one side and asked him “Are sure you want this?” He agreed and then Jacob bit into his neck.

Cleo could see that Ryan was in a state of ecstacy. Just then she could here clawing at the door as it was being shredded down its center. She could also hear Alex yelling at the top of his lungs. “Cleo, Jacob, don’t do this! STOP!!!”

Cleo then opened the door as Alex looked in to see that it was too late, Jacob had sired a child and now their cozy set-up had exceeded its quota of vampires by two and this would surely be nothing but bad.
Cleo smiled as she saw Jacob finally had a glow about him that made her feel that he was happy that Ryan agreed to become his child.

Maybe one day she would get the right to do the same…
