If I had to describe this particular dish in three words, I'd find it easy: vile, vile, vile. In the meat section of all Chinese menus, is a 'favourite' - Crispy Duck. It is only recently that the sordid world of duck farming has been exposed, and it makes for hard reading, for instance: 18 million ducks die in Britain alone - and 90 percent of those have existed in the living hell that is factory farming. Think animal testing is ok because there are laws in the UK to protect the animals from unnecessary suffering? Think again. The BUAV has produced disturbing undercover footage of the hell endured by primates at Cambridge University. On a separate page, the BUAV states: 'As part of the ten month investigation the BUAV obtained video and documentary evidence revealing that monkeys, who had the tops of their heads sawn off and strokes induced, were left unattended for up to 15 hours or longer leading to inevitable suffering and death'. The Blue Cross is calling for pet owners to take part in a competition to help raise funds to care for the animals at their adoption centres and hospitals. If you have a photograph of your pet that you are proud of, why not submit it to the Blue Cross Calendar competition? You never know - your fuzzy could be the next 'Miss July!' The RSPCA is asking for your support for badgers in the run up to the government's public consultation about the proposed slaughter of badgers. Badgers have long been blamed for occurences of Bovine TB, although 20 other wildlife species are also known to carry it. Despite the results of a protracted study into badger culling and TB proving that instances of TB in cattle actually increased, a cull could still be pushed through. Glue traps are probably one of the most evil ways of trapping rodents, by causing the trapped animal to suffer extreme distress and fear, and in many cases, a slow, agonising death.
