Quote:With this morning's patch, we have removed /level 30 from most servers and realms. The exceptions are Lancelot/Hibernia and Lancelot/Midgard
Good thing I stacked all the /level 30 servers with 8 toons apiece over the last 2 weeks, I guess.

Re: Bye Bye /level 30
Kind of glad to see it go. Was not really being monitored well anyways by Mythic. Most realms that had the level 30 usually had more than 3 relics which was crazy!

Plus took the fun out of thid and cale. Need all realms in them to have fun. Otherwise it becomes a camp one pk every single day and nite
Re: Bye Bye /level 30
I stacked all mine before I left the game about 1 year ago, so was already done. However, I had wanted to roll a level 30 animist. I believe my hibs are on lance, so should still be OK.
Quote:While /level 30 was a boon to players already established on an underpopulated realm, our experience has demonstrated that it did not provide enough long term incentive for a player to permanently move to an underpopulated realm.
Which proves beyond doubt that the /level command was introduced in an attempt to balance populations. At least, /level 30. It also proves that they are aware that populations are a problem that they are currently unable to solve.
So my thoughts are, why toast the /level 30 on servers? Why not simply make all servers /level 30? Since it is a boon to established players, would it not be incentive to keep those players active? Mythic goes out of their way to make this game time consuming and clumsy to play. Some things in SWG were not like that... the game was nicely designed to be played easily, with tons of features that were lacking in games like daoc. I think Mythic has dropped the ball once again. Instead of trying to keep current players playing, they once again limited a players options.
Another example of nearsighted thinking:
Some RAs were useless, some were overpowered. It took almost 2 years for Mythic to realise and do something about it. Yet, what do they do?
1) Release an expansion pack that contains useless items that are incredibly hard to achieve, and overpowered items that seem to be common.
2) Revamp the RAs so that they still include useless abilities and overpowered abilities.
I can think of so many things that would improve the game. Improvements that would make the game more fun and easy to play, things that would provide incentive for people to keep playing. But that is totally against Mythic's philosophy. A philosophy that has caused them to loose many customers to other games. It is far easier to keep a customer, then to get new customers. They don't seem to realise or care about this.
Sticking to the /level concept, here is what *I* would do if I were running the show:
1) Make /level 20 avaliable to all players that have at least one level 20 character, and can only be used on the server the original character is.
2) make /level 30 available to all players that have a level 50 character, and can be used on all servers.
Since /level 30 had not improved server population imbalances, what is the harm of putting /level 30 on all servers? It certainly wouldn't make the situation worse.
Would it make people play less? No way. I'd personally be more interested in trying/playing a different class if I could start at level 30. The fact that I stacked 8 characters in all three realms on level 30 servers proves that I do have some interest in playing some other classes.
I have so much fun in BG, that I made sure I had a large selection (7 on MLF) of classes to choose from to play on a given night. My dream would be to have several level 50 characters in all three realms, to do the same thing in full RvR. However, since it takes too long to get from 30-50, and once at 50 the game is only starting for that character due to RAs and ToA, this is an impossible dream unless one were to spend thousands of dollars and just buy characters.
The one thing this game has going for it, is that playing alts can be fun, a lot of fun. Unlike SWG where playing a low level alt is no fun at all once you have played a higher level character, daoc BGs and lowbie grps are fun to play. Unlike SWG, engame in daoc is fun to play... there is lots of content after 50 especially with ToA, and RvR is not the only post 50 activity.
Some players live for RvR. Any non RvR activity is spent gaining items and abilities that can be used in RvR. Some players don't like RvR. I don't particularly like RvR myself because of the huge amount of time spent NOT fighting. BGs are fun for me because the fighting is much more constant. In RvR, if you don't have speed in your grp, you miss all the action except for when you get rolled by the enemy that does have speed. The maps are just too large to be played effectively without speed. Mythic knows this, and gave us hasteners. A small carrot in front of the mule, that is useless because it is unavailable at PK, doesn't last long enough, and is not fast enough. Just another band-aid for a broken aspect of the game.
This game could be so much better, if Mythic wasn't so reluctant to actually *give* us something useful. Things that won't take hours and hours to achieve. Things that would be available to all players regardless of class or realm. ToA attempts to do this, except for the huge amount of time required to get anything.
Quote:One thing we will do in the meantime, as we consider all of the possible future options and solutions, is install a "New User Redirect" system.
Right now, with our various free trials and numerous Camelot products in the retail chain, we are experiencing a *strong* influx of players entirely new to the game. In version 1.69, every user with a new installation of Camelot will be greeted by a pop up window with our suggested server and realm to play on. Via this pop up box, we will encourage truly new users to go to our underpopulated realms to play.
If they think this will make a difference, they are daft.
It is true there are many total newbs still coming to the game. I see them on occasion, and still take great joy in handing them a few gold, buffs, or maybe some grey loot I may have in my inventory (I never sell stuff I outgrow, instead I leave it on the last page on inventory, and gift it to a newb).
But consider, these people have to level from 1 to 50 to be effective in the RvR population fight. Consider that they are newbs, and do not know how to level as fast as experienced players. Consider that they probably have no idea what to spec to be effective, let alone that the class they chose is gimped. It will be six months at least until they are countable as an useful RvR player. With this in mind, any effect this will have on server populations will be two years down the road. I have no idea what I will be playing in two years, but I am fairly confident it WON'T be daoc.
If Mythic wants to solve this population problem, they will have to do something more drastic and forceful. One idea that comes to my mind:
I have a high rank lvl 50 on server A in realm A. Server B in realm B has a severe lack of population compared to realm C. If I choose, I can transfer (or copy) my character to server B in realm B. I get a fresh character, with all my experience points, and all my RPs. I need only train to 50, spend my RPs, and get gear.
This way I can almost emmediately play in the underpopulated realm, but with a full character. As soon as the population is balanced, the option is pulled from that server.
This would allow entire guilds to move to a new realm, play effectively, and very quickly balance the population. It wuld breath new life for players that are thinking of leaving the game.
One drawback I can think of, is the FOTM type classes would be chosen most. But that is a different problem, and is due to some classes being useless. Making a class useful is Mythic's job, and simply another issue they avoid admitting to or fixing.
