Broken (Answer to april challenge )
Disclaimer: Nope I don’t own the Gilmore Girls
Summary: a short fic about Rory looking back at her relationships.
A/N: A big thank you to aquariuscutie205 for betaing.

Broken

Rory walked around in her old home town. It was weird to be home in Stars Hollow again. There were so many memories and feelings attached to this city. Most of them were good memories. Some of them, not so good. There was her first break up, her second break up, a guy leaving her behind with out a word and her first boyfriend’s wedding. She had never felt like that before, as she stood there, by the tree, watching Dean walk out of the church, so happy. And it wasn’t because of her. It was because of Lindsay. And the way she felt, had given the phrase ‘green with envy’ a new meaning. She hated it. Seeing them together and happy. He had moved on for real. A part of her wanted to be with him.

Dean had always seemed safe, even when she had fallen asleep next to him. Dean was the prefect first boyfriend. And everything was perfect when it came to him. But then it happened. The perfect picture broke into a thousand small pieces. He said he would build her a car and then he broke up with her. She understood why. He had said he loved her, and she hadn’t said it back. And the strange thing was that she had loved him. But she couldn’t say it. Her brain told her to say it back, but her mouth wouldn’t listen. Her mouth said all the wrong things.

Getting back together with Dean was great. When he had come to Chilton she had smiled. She didn’t care about fighting with Tristan, she ran away from him, happy. And then she said it “I love you, you idiot”. Off course she could have dropped the idiot part, but then again, she said it didn’t she? And everything was perfect again.

And then he came to town. A guy that challenged her, made her realise that Dean wasn’t the only guy in this world. But Jess was so… she didn’t know what, but there was something about him. He challenged her in a way Dean never could. But she still loved Dean and stayed with him. Dean made her happy. Dean was safe, and Dean would have told her to go back to school if she cut.

That’s when it happened. The car crash. And the first real fight she had with Dean after the first break up. But they got over it. And Jess moved to New York. When he came back, she kissed him and went to DC. She didn’t call Jess. She called Lorelai, Lane, Dean and even Luke, but not Jess.

And from there, her relationship with Dean was one long rocky road. And when he broke up with her the second time, it hurt. He broke her heart one more time, but not as much as the first time. This time, someone found her sitting on the bridge, telling her that he had to fix something. So then, she and Jess were a couple. It was something different. He didn’t call when he said he would and he wasn’t safe.

And then there was the visit to her grandmother, and her first fight with Jess. But they got over it. And then he changed. One day, he would take her to the prom and everything would be fine. The next day there was something wrong but he wouldn’t tell her what. And that party was the end. They didn’t have to have a break up; no one had to say it. Because, they only shared a few sentences after that and he left. He ran away to California and didn’t come back. No good bye, just a broken promise about a phone call.

And Rory didn’t want to cry. She wasn’t going to cry over him. He didn’t deserve it. And on graduation day, when he called, she had said everything she wanted to say. And she felt worse then ever. It was over. She and Jess weren’t an “us” anymore, but two people with nothing in common, aside from their love of books.

Rory walked back to her car. It hurt to think about this. 7 years later and it still hurt. She hadn’t gotten over Jess or Dean. She wished she had. To come to Dean and Lindsay’s baby shower had been a bad idea. She knew it, but she had done it. And now she felt like Dean had just broken up with her and Jess had just left for California…

The end
