Blue Gularis aggression
Blue gularis are considered to be "aggressive" and the males hard drivers. How do you find them?

I have a pair in an 18" tank by themselves and the male hasn't caused the female any grief at all. Are they only aggressive to other males or to heterospecifics (other species)? or do I just have a wimp :b

If so, he's a nice looking wimp :D

Yes the males are supposedly very aggresisve towards females and supposedly will kill the female as quick as look at her.

I also have only ever found wimps in this species. But who is really complaining

Thanks Bill,

Have you had much luck breeding them? What method do you use? I've only had them mine a month and they are in a gravel bottom tank with driftwood, plants and spawning mops (I wanted to give the female the best chance possible to escape). I've seen them spawning in the gravel but I havn't seen any eggs in the mops. I was think of trying a bare bottom tank with bottom mops when I come back from o/s in 6 weeks.

I have found them to be hit and miss breeders - sometimes they breed like there was no tomorrow - other times well we will think about it tomorrow:rolleyes

I generally keep all my killis on gravel and in a small planted tank. From my observations the planting and gravel seems to make them less nervous and they seem to get lost in anything over an 18-24 inch tank.

I have a couple of dark woollen mops that are on the gravel - they seem happy enough to spawn in those when they are willing to spawn. Yes wool will rot more easily than artificial type stuff but there was a discussion on one of the boards several years ago and people thought the fish preferred softer darker stuff.

I have attempted giving them a bowl of peat to breed in. The reaction was almost what is that stuff and what is HE up to putting it in our tank - it obviously isnt edible.
:eek

Just my observations on breeding them. As you get further into killis you will find that everyone who breeds them has a different idea as to what is best for breeding

Cheers

Bill
