[A]n unexpected turn of objectives..

This one's for anyone.. ^.^
IC:
A small, empty crisp-wrapper floated over the railway tracks, bouncing up and down off the ground as it was carried by a gentle breeze. Something simple and serene just going where the wind would take it, until suddenly, something caught it on the top, pushing it hard into the ground.
A boot. Like the hand of God it came crashing down on the red packet, flattening it to the ground swiftly, and as if Judgement was served, the wrapper led still, under the wrath of this metallic invader.
Quietly, Alexios looked over the train station. The wracket the packet was making as it bounced was annoying, so he silenced it. With a small smile he looked at the tracks, where he and Cj had spoken openly for the first time, and for the last time in a year until now. It was a nice memory, but something troubled him about it. He was taken from her a year ago, and now he doubted everything about himself. Would she doubt him too?
Lifting his foot off the silenced wrapper, he walked forwards, his rifle invisible on his back in the darkness of the night. He was without helmet, but his deep glowing blue eyes shone bright enough to be seen like two floating blue orbs in the station. It wasn't the light that they emit that allowed him to see so well in the dark, it was the eyes themselves. They - he - was part of a governmental project that engineered people, giving them 'upgrades'. As a sniper of this project, one of his advancements was his eyes sight; the ability to see clearer in daylight, and the ability to see as clearly as day in the dark. He could see it was night time, but nothing was a silhouette. Every outline was bright and vivid. At least, he thought to himself, he was safe from tripping over hidden objects when he was like this.
A noise caught his attention, and he looked at the computer on his arm. A picture flashed up, and a man in a doctors uniform sighed at the screen,
"There's been a change of plan, Alexios."
Alex frowned. That's wierd. The government should still believe that he wasn't Alexios again, after they erased his memory and named him, 'Akarus.'
"What? Who is-.."
Before he could keep up his disguise though, the doctor shook his head,
"Alex, we know your memory is back. The second you walked through the event horizon on M-synch, the machine told us your r-cells we put in you were repairing your cortex, so you were re-becoming Alex. There was nothing we could do."
"So.. what, are you gonna come and kidnap me again?"
The doctor grinned, "So you can kill a few soldiers that come for you? No. Bit of a waste. Instead, we've decided to accept our mistake, and see how well it proves when used to our advantage, or at least to some use for both of us."
Alex nodded,
"I'm listening"
"Good. The board of governers for the Tetra Project have decided they want to step things up a notch. They know about the prototype testing going on in Arciero now, and they've decided they want a second soldier."
"Another Torez class?"
"No. A new type. Female. Netari class."
Alex frowned. The last name of each soldier produced in the Tetra programme corresponded with their class of soldier. Long range and tactics were Torez class, hence his last name. Another in the Torez class may well be called Brendan Torez, if he or she was created.
It seemed, there was a new class of soldier being introduced.
Netari.
The doctor continued, "We know that there are a few people in Arciero who no longer have families who would worry about them, we trust there are a few females there? Your addition objective is now to.. 'talent scout' potential Netari Snipers or Infiltrators. If you find a worthy volunteer, contact us, and we will initiate M-synch. You will both be reposted back in Arciero for a 1 year trial against the infestation out there."
Alex nodded a little, then looked around,
"Sounds good. And I'm guaranteed 1 year out here?"
"1 year. No less. No tricks either. This is straight from the top."
Alex thought for a second, then nodded,
"Call it a deal. I'll report to you soon."
With that the screen dissappeared, plunging Alex back into darkness again.
Silently he looked around and smiled.
1 year. CJ will be happy..

Humming softly, Cj walked through the fields just outside the center of Arciero. It was late, and dark...but Cj had gotten used to that while she had been living near the train tracks.
Tonight, she had realized that she left her blanket near the edge of the tracks. She had noticed her mistake just before she was about to go to sleep. Mumbling curses, she had stumbled away from the grass outside the Opera House where she had planned to sleep and started to make her way to the tracks. It wasn't that far of a walk, but it had been a long day and Cj was exhausted. She would've walked the entire way in silence, just to save what little energy she had left, but the humming drowned out the sounds of the forest around her. Sure, she had lived out here for a little over a year...but that didn't make it any less frightening.
Caliandra frowned. She would've been less frightened if Alexios had been around. She had hoped to see Alexios today, but he'd wandered off. Rolling her eyes, Cj smiled, figuring he had just run into Sita and was catching up with her. Or at least...that's what she hoped.
Sighing, Cj reached the train tracks, counting her steps to find her way in the dark. Carefully trying to find her blanket without falling, she began singing softly, the same song she sang the first time she met Alexios Torez. Edited by: CaliandraJade at: 28/4/06 19:09

Yawning a little, something caught Alex's eye. There was a field here. It had been a long time since he sat or stood in any field, and quietly he etched his rifle furhter up his back with a twitch, then headed to the field. About half way across however, he started hearing voices. Slowing down, he unclipped his rifle. Always so damn edgy..
Silently, he placed his helmet on. The eyes shone down, their glow fading, as he knelt in the grass, his figure too dark in the night to be seen. The helmet quietly amplified the sound into his ears, and with a smile, he lowered his weapon and rose fully to his feet, removing his helmet. Coast was clear, and in fact, he decided to flag her down before she left the field,
"Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down, like a bridge over troubled water.."
He smiled after singing a little, before shaking his head and shouting to her, so she would most definately be able to hear him, but unlikely be able to see him,
"A year's worth of not singing doesn't work wonders on the throat, you know? Not like I could ever sing in the first place though, if you ask me.."

Hearing the voice sing along, Cj recognized it immediately...even though it made her jump about a foot in the air in surprise.Taking a deep breath to calm her nerves, she smiled. "mhmm..hello, Alexios, darling." She grinned. "You really shouldn't sneak up on people like that." She spun around, looking for him. "Though I suppose it wouldn't be sneaking up on me if I can't see you..." her voice got shaky.
"A-Alexios?" Cj knew it was ridiculous to be afraid of the dark...but since Alexios had been taken away, she seemed to be more afraid than ever...and even though he was back, the childish fears remained.
"A-Al-Alexios..." her entire body was shaking now, her teeth were chattering. "W-where are you?" Cj wrung her hands, pacing back and forth. Forgetting to count her steps after she heard the singing, she was basically lost. She knew she was near the traintracks..but where? She continued walking around blindly, unsure of why she didn't just stay still and let Alexios find her. "A-Ale--" She tried to call out his name but was caught offguard as she reached the tracks and promptly tripped right over them. "Oomph!"

Beside her the long grass rustled slightly and a hand gently touched her shoulder. With a smile, Alexios spoke quietly,
"I'm here. Don't panic!"
Quietly, he folded his legs and sat next to her, looking at her where she fell and shaking his head,
"Are you alright? And what are you scared of? You knew I was in the field with you, and do you not remember?"
He pointed to his eyes as they shone slightly,
"My eyes, may be a different colour now, but they still do what they did before. You might not be able to see me, but I can see you right now. So if there was something scary out here, I'd be able to see it, and before it sees me, it'd be dead. The way of the sniper."
Leaning over he kissed her cheek then led back in the grass, looking up at the sky,
"So were you heading to the train station?"

Without a word, Cj curled up next to Alexios, her fear seeming to disappear. She didn't feel like explaining why she had been afraid. It really didn't make sense to her anyway. Sighing softly she leaned on his shoulder.
Quietly, she answered his question. "No...kind of. Not really." she smiled. "I just left something out here that I was looking for. I don't know what I was thinking. It's too dark to find it now." She smiled softly, kissing his cheek. "I don't really mind, though. I have you." She smiled, kissing his cheek again.
Raising an eyebrow, she continued. "What are you doing out here anyway?"

Smiling a little he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close to him in the grass whilst looking up at the sky,
"Not much. I just got off the phone to base, that's all. They know I've changed back, but they aren't going to do anything about it this time. I know I can't really trust them 100%, but I believe'd the person who spoke to me. There's something about him I trust."
The content of the phone call began repeating on him and he frowned in thought, smiling. Gently, he stroked her cheek, not taking his eyes off a particular spot in the sky,
"Hey, CJ? When I first met you, you said that you lost your sister on the way here. Your parents abandoned you."
He sighed very softly, snuggling up to her somewhat, before closing his eyes, "Has there ever been a point in your life were you've wished to be someone else? To change everything about you, leave the past behind and start afresh? No memories of the mistakes you make, just a true, clean start..?"
Blinking, he nodded to himself, "I know I did once.."

Cj nodded slowly as he explained about the phone call. "I see." was all she said at first. What else was there to say? That she didn't want to hear about it? That it scared her? That she was so afraid that he'd leave her again.
Hearing his next question, Cj moved away from Alexios. "Yes, my parents abandoned me. Yes, I fucking lost my sister." Cj's mind was screaming at her to stop talking but there was no way she could. Her family, her sister especially...was such a touchy subject. "I hate myself, Alexios. Every second of every fucking day, I hate myself. But do I want to be someone else? No. Because then I wouldn't have known what it was like to feel cared for, to feel needed, to feel...loved." Her voice wavered. "I wouldn't know Arciero or Sita or..." Cj paused. "Or you, Alexios. I wouldn't know you."
After completely missing Alexios's last statement, Cj sighed. "I..I'm sorry." She shook her head. "What were you saying?

Alex blinked a little at her response, but never took his eyes off the sky, as he retracted his arm and led it across his chest. It was as if he'd expected the response somewhat.
With a quiet sigh, he shook his head,
"Nevermind.. it doesn't really matter.."
closing his eyes now, he nodded to himself,
"I'm sorry for touching on such an edgy topic..I just needed to know something.. that's all.."
Sub consciously, she had already answered his question..
Opening his eyes again now, he yawned slightly, still looking up at the sky. Raising his left arm, and touching the computer screen. With the touch, it burst into light, illuminating his face. The screen was covered in what looked to be "barcode-like" images and numbers, moving fast, a language only someone hooked up to the suit could understand. Quietly he spoke into it,
"Research, 'Netari'."
The screen bleeped as it went about its mission, recovring information from Government networks about the Netari experiment.
Lowering his arm slightly, he looked up to the sky again,
"The government are initiating a second project, to run alongside the one I'm in; the Torez project. They're looking for a female, preferably with no background and no ties, to volunteer for the operation they call 'transcendance'. Know anyone who would be interested in that line of work? Someone who'd either like to handle a long distance weapon such as the HERA," quietly, he tapped his rifle, indicating that his was a HERA, "or short range tactical combat?"

ic: Cj sat quietly for several minutes, looking away from Alexios. She had completely freaked out and now she was worked up, nervous, and..well. Embarrassed. She tried desperately to keep everything to herself... and with one question, she had lost it. Cj clicked her tongue. <i>tsk tsk, Cj...you know better than that...</i>
Looking back at Alexios, his face now clearly visible in the light, she smiled softly. He hadn't left. This was definitely a good sign. Though, with Alexios, you never knew when he'd leave...or if he'd come back. Cj's smile faded into a frown and she watched Alexios quietly.
Hearing his words, she raised an eyebrow. Suddenly, she realized why he had asked what he did. <i>"Has there ever been a point in your life were you've wished to be someone else? Of COURSE she felt that way. Every fucking day of her life. But was she going to admit it? Well...no. Of course not. She already felt weak with Alexios...like she was a child and Alexios was there to protect her. ...But how much of that was true and how much was made up in Cj's mind?
Sighing softly, she answered his question. "No, Alexios...I haven't seen anyone in Arciero in...quite awhile. I've..I've been living out here. Sleeping near the tracks...and that's kinda sorta why I'm here. I left my blanket." Cj sighed. "Sorry I can't help.."
Sighing again, she leaned back, inching further away from Alexios.

He rolled his eyes slightly before closing them,
"She would be posted out here with me for 1 year, whoever she is, when she's chosen. After that, the 2 projects, possibly 3 by then, will work together as a tactical team, wherever they go."
Alex smiled a little, "But, that's the future projects. The prototypes are to be realeased, to do as they like, if they choose not to continue with the project. Only after a year though. And they may be seperated, to avoid revealing the Government's intentions to any rich merchants who want a piece of the action."
Folding his arms across his chest, his computer bleeped at him slightly to let him now it had found nothing on the Netari programme. The Government obviously were still keeping it under wraps until a potential project had been found.
"I'm sorry I brought this up.."
Silently, he sat up, opening his shinging blue eyes and looking out across the field.
"Once upon a time, I was someone else. I had nothing going for me. Problems, far beyond most people's comprehension, and bancrupcy far worse than any 3rd-world nation. I was offered something, and it didn't matter that there were potential consequences of life/death sizeability. Death meant nothing to me anymore. I wouldn't have been alive much longer anyway.
I took the offer, and before I knew it, I was a new man. I still had my full name, but a new name added to the end too, to mark my type; to mark me as something different.
Heh.. difference.. wasn't something I was particularly bothered by at that point in my life, because I was a nobody, and suddenly, I was somebody.
After a while though, through vigourous training, things changed a little. I was forced to forget things, to be brough up like a newborn in this world. I came to Arciero once again feeling like I was nobody, with knowledge of only how to survive, but arriving here, I was made to feel like I was someone again, because I met someone who made me feel like I was someone..
.. only to have her taken from me anyway when I was dragged from this place.."
He sighed a little, "There's no point me telling you any of this, I just choose to, to let you know, that, though I will never know exactly what you have been through, or how you have felt, you're not alone in feeling how you feel about them.."
Gently, he rubbed his eyes,
"There's no need to snap at me Cj. I haven't been here very long. I have missed this place, and you, but I need time to adjust again. It's like.. being woken up.. you know where you are.. you know how you feel.. but you can't respond to everything so well..
But... just think about it.. if you see anyone, or talk to anyone, female, who would be interested in Transcending... tell me.."
With that he stood and looked at the railway station,
"I believe you left your blanket. I won't bother you anymore.."

ic: Cj listened quietly as Alexios explained the 'project'. She hated the word... Alexios was -not- a 'project'. He was Alexios. Her Alexios.
...But maybe not for long.
Sighing softly, Cj concentrated on what Alexios was saying. <i>wait, wait, wait, waitwaitwait. She'd be posted with HIM for a YEAR?</i> Cj scoffed and rolled her eyes. She hadn't even gotten him for a year. Why should some bitch get to be with him instead of her? In her jealousy, Cj didn't hear that they could be separated. But at this point, she pretty much didn't care. She had had Alexios for what? A day? And then he was taken away, ripped away from her. She couldn't handle it...again. And besides, they had a year to figure out how to stay together.
Closing her eyes, Cj knew what she had to do.
Cj opened her eyes and heard Alexios' last words. She quickly stood up to meet Alexios' height (as much as she could), she put her hand on his shoulder. "Baby, don't go..."
Taking a deep breath, she continued. <i>I can't believe I'm going to say this</i> Cj closed her eyes again.
